I Got My Likely (acceptance) Letter!

drdomuch, do you know why you got a likely?

For those of you who received likely letters from Yale, can you please post your stats so that we would get an idea as to what kind of students Yale is expecting?

*returns handshake vigorously lol

drdomuch, what kind of stats do u have? (i applied RD to yale also...just wondering if we have any similarities I WANT MY LIKELY LETTER OMG) haha ok yeah post em if youre comfortable doing so

To those who received likely letters:

Did you already interview? On campus? Alumni? In what part of U.S. are you located?

Thanks

I got the letter with no interview although I may anyway just to hear the interviewer's experiences and to simply talk. I'm in Southern California.

Thanks. And congratulations!

Yes, internationals do get likely letters.

Good luck everyone!!!=)

hey when did you hear that? i dont know anyone from my school who has got a likely letter from either yale or harvard and still they have got in to these univs. now i'm not saying that only those who do get likelies get in of course but out of so many people i know, and i am in india, no one has got a likely letter ever.

likely letter people --
First off, congratulations; second, when (and if) did you guys get the postcard confirming that Yale had all parts of your application and what was its chronological relationship to the likely letter? Thanks for any information.

sybbie, you copied the wrong thing.

http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/messages/57277/46257.html

Here it is.

So they also send out financial aid packages before you're officially accepted?

haha crazy chai, i and another yale deferree made up our own university - "Trumpivy University" - whose motto is "Better Than Ivy"

uh no they haven't sent out the financial packages yet... The postcard came exactly two weeks after the deadline - I got my postcard on 14 Jan. The likely letters were dated 10 Jan, so they arrive like two weeks after the postcard.

likely letters makeme skeptical, what underhanded tricks will colleges use next though my cynicism stems from not receiving one :( :(

I had an interview off campus on 1/17.

The other "underhanded trick" currently in vogue is expanded use of the waitlist at many addresses. The attraction of the waitlist is that people chosen from it come in at a nice, juicy 100% yield rate, thus eliminating the need to admit as many applicants who may turn you down and go elsewhere.

Consider the result if, instead of taking 100 people off the waitlist, a college were to fill those same slots with regular, RD candidates... if the school's RD yield is 33%, then it would have to admit 300 more people RD to yield the same 100 matriculants , and it would appear less "selective."

Ops, my badk... Thanks for posting the correct link David.

Financial aid for students receiving likley letters will come out with the RD stuff in April

Byerly, out of curiosity, just what are your feelings about likely letters?
