I got in today!!!! But I really don't know what to do. When I talked to the admissions rep, she said that I would need to make sort of a commitment before they would do my finaid stuff. I need finaid stuff to make my decision because I am already enrolled at Duke. I wish they could do that and then let me make a decision. Also, will we receive a letter of admission in the mail?

Did you tell them your situation? I'd tell them that you need to know it because you are already enrolled in Duke...maybe they'de understand.

I told her that I was enrolled at another college and I would have to see the finaid at Cornell before making a decision, but she still kinda seemed like she wanted me to make a likely commitment. I dont know, I just really dont know what to do. I'm supposed to call her tomorrow, but I don't know what to tell her. I definitely do not want to tell her that I'm not interested, but I don't want to make a commitment. This is hard.

Say you are leaning towards Cornell but u can't make a decision without the financial aid. Even if the leaning is a slight white lie it will get u the packet. Unless u don't want to go to Cornell I'd make it sound like u are very interested but can't make such a large decision until you know what it will cost. But remember that u will be wasting time of another waitlistee who could really wanna go so make sure ur serious about the school b4 u make them take the time to do ur aid so just be considerate about it. Anyway, Congrats on getting in a gl!

congrats people

im starting to worry. my status hasn't changed online and i can't get into housing.
im terrified they lost my file or something
when are the forms going to come!!!!!!!!!

cornell11 - don't worry about the online status or the acceptance letter. cornell called me on friday afternoon to say i was off the waitlist so, naturally, i expected an acceptance letter to arrive on monday. i didn't get my acceptance letter until today (thursday) and they even priority mailed it. my online status changed yesterday. it will take a few days for everything to come together.

thanks for the advice figgy. They said that I could make a final decision after I look at the finaid.

thanks preppypennie.
i still cant believe it. i don't think it'll sink in untill i actually get the actual packet. lol

Same here, I can't believe it.

I Just Got Off The Waitlist!!! This Is The Happiest Day Of My Life!

Congratulations to everyone on admission to Cornell. It's a tremendous accomplishment

llabesab16, I'm curious -- why are you considering to pass on Duke for Cornell? I've seen stats that say Duke wins 80% of cross-admits with Cornell and it's ranked higher in USNews. Are you an engineer?

lol, I'm premed, but Duke didn't give my family great financial aid, and that is a HUGE factor for us. If Cornell can give me a significantly better deal, I would want to do something that would help my family out. I realize Duke is probably stronger premed, but I don't want my parents to have to pay off a lot of loans.

llabesab16 -- why don't you call Duke financial aid, describe your situation, and see what they can do for you?

I never realized how much negotiating room most universities have when determining financial aid...I naively assumed that the first offer was the best one.

Unfortunately physicians are graduating from med school with even more monstrous debt loads (hence the increase in medical specialties that pay more) so any steps you can take with undergrad debt will give you more flexibility in the future

Well Duke is workable, but I mean they didn't even give me as much as Wake Forest. I just don't know if I should wait and see what Cornell gives me and then call Duke or go ahead and call Duke. I heard somewhere that Duke doesn't like to negotiate, but I don't know if that is true. It seems like most other colleges are pretty flexible with it.

I don't think there's any harm in calling Duke and telling them your situation and that it's causing you to consider a new offer of admission.

The worst case scenario is they say "let's talk when you have the offer in hand" which is fine -- at the very least they'll match.

The likely scenario is that they'll try to address your needs and alleviate some of the financial burden...

Sounds like a good idea. I will talk to my parents about it. Thanks for the input.

Good news, everyone still waitlisted for CAS. We called today and apparently they've decided to accept 60 more people. They haven't picked them yet, but will do so within the next week. So we should be hearing within the next two weeks!

since the acceptance packets are sent priority mail does it come seperate from the normal mail?

yea 60 ppl is alot, are you sure?
