Preppy if they tell you that you are in then you are in. Don't worry about the details. Just focus on the AP tests and have a fun rest of the year. The package probably won't come the day after it is sent so just be patient. It's fine that you told ur friends that u r off the waitlist because u r. Period. A piece of paper doesn't suddenely make that official. Just be really happy with yourself (ps CONGRATS!) and have a great rest of the year. Congrats and GL on the APs!!

I was offered a spot at Cornell from the waitlist but had previously signed up with Northwestern.

I'm looking at both colleges of arts and sciences right now, with planned majors being a field in bio or chem and a second major dealing with science in society (its name at each college varies).

How do the scientific educations provided at each school compare? Of course, location and financial aid play a large part as well.

I've been near Chicago all my life but haven't really been there independently to do what I'd like to do. Cornell, while beautiful, seems less appealing to me without a large city near it.

NU's financial aid makes NU definitely doable, but I'll have to wait for Cornell's financial aid. Assuming if they're the same price, not counting travel expenses, I'm still unsure.

Anybody care to share their opinions?

Thanks

i wish i was in ur situation miss. alec.
personally id go to chicago bc ive lived in NY all my life. so i guess you should go to cornell since you live in chicago.

what if you miss cornell's call. do they throw your file in the garbage?
will they call your guidance counsellor?

and did anyone get in college of human ecology?

ihubecon - apparently on friday (when they called me) they couldn't get through to my home or something (which i'm not sure about, because i was home all day. and we have caller id, so if they called and i didn't hear the phone ring, i would have seen the caller id) anyway, they called my guidance counselor, but our school had off that day so no students were there. but cornell just called me again in the afternoon. i think they would have kept calling until they got a hold of me, or at least i hope that's what they would have done

to anyone that got a phone call saying they are off the waitlist: have you gotten your letter in the mail yet? and when did you get the call? i didn't get my letter today, but i'll give it one more day and then i think i'll call admissions.

or to anyone that got off the waitlist last year: how many days did it take for your acceptance letter to come after they called you???

DustBunny--Do you have a good second choice college (good in the sense that you'll be all right with it if you go there)? Good luck getting into Cornell--it sounds like there is still a good chance. Maybe it will make you feel a bit better to hear that on one of our visits, we met a Cornell senior who told us he got off the waitlist quite late in the summer. He said he was all set to go to another school, when Cornell called. He had kind of shifted gears in his head by then and was thinking maybe he wouldn't take them up on it after all, until his mother said, "Are you crazy? You're going." Ha. He seemed pleased that he did end up at Cornell. :) So, hang in there! I think the high number of applications is going to result in kids getting pulled off waitlists at a lot of colleges, and decisions might be a bit erratic in timing, too.

my dean just told me that he called cornell, and they said that they don't know if anyone else is coming off the waitlist yet, and they wont know before this monday

alec - pretty much a toss up. NW a bit higher in engineering, but doesn't sound like yur heading that way. Cornell of course has great rep in the sciences in general. Both are super choices! Go where you like the environment. Big city sounds like your comfort zone. Ithaca will be major change!!

Preppy - I called Cornell today. They have just passed my daughter's file to their undergrad processing center. I spoke with someone there. They told me that her letter went out today and her online status should change tomorrow (one day delay). You may want to log on tomorrow yourself to see if you could get on the self service website to do housing, otherwise you could call housing yourself and sign up.

Aaa...
I applied to CAS (Math Major)
is anyone still waiting for a reply?
Will they tell you if you DIDNT make it?

Good Luck to everyone still waiting. It could still happen remember that!
One quick question for those of you accepted off of the waitlist, what did you send, if anything, to supplelment your application upon notification that you were on the waiting list (ie interest letter, ec update, new rec)?
Thanks

thanks oldfort! i called yesterday afternoon as well. they seemed more helpful to you, but probably because you are an adult. they kind of laughed at me and said "oh, it will come in a few days. it takes some time to get through the university. no worries. bye"

but my login id does work now. i can access housing, and meal plans and everything. and it says all of my required forms have not been received :-P if i could only get my required forms.

oldfort - i'm kind of confused with all of the different IDs...can your daughter access the class of 2011 website?

actually...i can't access housing and dining. oops! can your daughter?

You can't access housing and dining until you have sent in your deposit. You can send in the deposit now before you get the packet. Today they told me it takes 2 days to update their computer, so my daughter should be able to access it tonight. I have just a big school experience - got transferred five times.

go to www.housing.cornell.edu , clinck on "Click here to apply" Once you get there, use your last name as your ID, and with pin number starting with CU. You should be able to input your profile and preference. I just got in. Give it a shot.

fort - i went to U Texas back in the day. "Welcome to the Machine", right? But the staff people are always nice. Just have follow the forms and procedures. Good they have some guides like you to help the newbies learn!

thanks so much oldfort! i was actually using the wrong admissions pin. oops! i'm guessing that i could not have accessed the "class of 2011" page before i was taken off the wait list? if yes, then it's a sign that my letter is coming. as you can see, i'm still kind of in the non-believing stage that i actually got off the wait list. i keep having bad visions of admissions calling up and saying "well, we decided we didn't really want you" but they changed my admissions pin to allow me to go on the cornell-bound webpages...

My sentiment exactly. My daughter is a lot more blase about it, but it's because she has a mother like me. I actually go hold of their IT administrator to look up her pin. He wouldn't tell me, but said it started with CU. We then loged in together to make sure it actually worked. I wanted to make sure before we turned down another school. I heard that school is not taking anyone off the waitlist. I thought it was only right they knew as soon as possible.

i got off the waitlist, im in!!!!!

preppypennie i totally agree it's so weird not having any confirmation, not even an official paper.
i keep thinking im holucinating, im so relieved.
i hope the forms and stuff come soon.
it seems like they took a lot of ppl off the waitlist?
