I got kicked out of a four year university for having a gpa of 1.3. I wanted to transfer to CUNY, but they told me that I needed a gpa of 2.0, so I attended Tci technical college. I received a gpa of 3.0 at TCI. I liked TCI, but they don’t offer a lot of liberal arts classes and tutition is too high. I applied to four CUNY school, that were community schools on their website, but i didn’t get in. They told me I can go to one of their schools and apply and they I won’t have to pay. There is only four schools of CUNY that offer graphic design and I already applied to them; kingsborough community college, queensborough community college, hostos community college, and bronx community college. My main interest is bronx community college, Should I go to the direct admission and explain why my gpa was low in the past? what should I do? by the way my high school gpa is 80.25

I’m surprised KBCC rejected you. They have a program at KBCC called New Start that accepts students who have extremely low gpa’s. I think you should go to KBCC and explain your situation and try to get into KBCC, see how many of your credits from TCI transfer and graduate with A.S degree in Fine Arts then transfer to a CUNY 4yr. Students who have associates degrees from cuny 2yr colleges are automatically given priority to a CUNY 4yr schools. Plus students who graduate from the New Start program are guaranteed admissions to a CUNY 4yr college.

I was in a similar situation as you few years back. I was academically dismissed from hunter for having a low gpa (lower than yours) I just didn’t go to class. After about of 18-20 months of working and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life I finally decided to go back to school but Hunter just would not accept me back. So I went to the ■■■■■■■■■ CUNY school that I knew of (Medgar Evers) and walked into their admissions office. The school wasn’t too far from where I live. But they wouldn’t accept me either bc of my gpa. The woman in admissions office told me to check out Kingsborough. So I called the admissions office at KBCC and told them about my situation and she told about the New Start program.

I definitely think you should just go to some of the CUNY admission offices and explain your situation.

My friend was dismissed from the first CUNY four year I attended for having a 0.25 gpa, much lower than yours. She was accepted to LaGuardia Community College a year after and was able to transfer from there into Lehman after one year. So it’s strange that a community college would not accept you, you should definitely go speak to the advisers at the schools that interest you most.
