I have a question regarding the ELC process for the UC's

Hey guys, just a little question here.

So for the ELC eligibility, which states that if im part of the top 9% of my class GPA wise, do the UCs take UW GPA in consideration for all of this, or do they use the A-G, "UC GPA" to determine whether a student is eligible for ELC? Thanks for any input!

I am quite sure that it’s UC GPA.

Keep in mind that ELC means little. It means they will guarantee you a spot to one UC, which could be Riverside or Merced. It doesn’t mean that if you only apply to UCLA, you’ll get in because you’re ELC.

[University of California - Statewide path](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/california-residents/admissions-index/index.html)

handy dandy calculator on the right hand side

Determination of ELC is based on comparing your UC admissions GPA to the UC admissions GPA of the historic top 9% of your high school. I.e. you are being compared about previous classes, not your current class.

For a high school to participate in ELC, it must send the transcripts of the top 12.5% of its class to UC, which then recalculates the UC admissions GPAs to find the top 9% UC admissions GPA that will be used for ELC determination in the following year(s).

Of course, ELC just means that if you apply to any UC, you don’t need to do an additional application to Merced.

Have they changed the ELC program from last year? Last year’s ELC students were guaranteed admission at many of the UC schools: UCD, UCSB, UCR, UCM, and UCI. Last year, I thought ELC was top 4% only, though.

As of last year, the only guaranteed admission for ELC is Merced. And it is the top 4 percent.
