Typing my Spanish paper. I think I am done, but I am not sure. I can't remember the last time I ate. The words don't make any sense. I can't seem to keep my eyes open or formulate thoughts anymore. Just got to keep grinding... for two more hours...why do I do this to myself? :(

You're starting to sound like me lol :)

I've been up for 4 days straight, I have a good 40 cover letters to write, and I have an administrative law paper, econ reading, and a french oral in a couple hours. Ugh.

There is no way that you have been up for 4 days straight.

you're still typing well and sound coherent. no way you've been up for 4 days straight.

40 cover letters? Sounds like quite the exaggeration...oh wait, so does being up for 4 days yet still being able to type coherently and be fully aware of your surroundings.

This is why a topic known as "time management" is like a foreign subject to a lot of college students.

time management is a bunch of BS. just get the work done. that's what it's all about. doesn't matter when you do it, whether it's a week in advance or 1 hr before its due. as for the OP, those hours seem exaggerated. but if true, then you made a **** poor decision in not knowing how much time it would take you to finish that paper.

well if you're going to wait until the last possible time frame to get something done, don't b**ch and moan about it. people know that waiting until the end will usually make things more stressful and harder to get done, then go off on rants complaining about a choice that they made.

^agreed...either plan your work and get it done in advance (without the added stress), or procrastinate, but it that case freaking man-up and stop complaining.

Absolutely no procrastination involved, I can say that with a straight face. Basically been like this since January. Glad I'm done now though. Spring break! Time to get some sleep. :)

I have stayed up for 4 days straight before.

But yes, the 40 cover letters thing is an exaggeration. It's more like 25-30.

As long as it's getting done, you're managing your time well. Many people manage their time so poorly they aren't able to complete their assignments.

it's not just about completing your assignment. It's about doing it well which is why time management is important.

wraider....you hate this?...Try going to college in an asian education centered country like India. Lol, then you'll know what real torture is.

krnpyschopath, i think getting the assignment done is better than trying to make it good and not finish it.

don't ask me why, but i work and do my best work when time is of the essence. that is why procrastination works for me. i've tried doing work in advance to give myself time to make it better but found it that in fact the work was worse. so yes, it's about completing the work and doing good work. for some people that means working on the assignment right after its handed out, for others it's starting the assignment the day before it's due.

just cause you all can't stay up for 4 days straight, does not make it an exaggeration.

i've done it many times but i do take an hour and a half nap somewhere in the four day stretch so it is likely the OP is not lying

If you're having to stay up for 4 nights straight to get things done, and especially if you're doing it regularly, something is very wrong. For a college student, this sort of schedule doesn't imply that you're just busy and diligent...it implies that you're over-loaded to the point of non-productivity, and/or that you're managing your time very inefficiently.

I know that multi-all-nighters happen, but they're not the norm, and you should be aware that they don't simply mean that you're a harder worker than anyone else. This is not just diligence, this is not just working well under pressure. If this is really your situation, you should be re-examining your schedule and your commitments, seeing if your counseling center offers any Time Management seminars, and finding tutors.

FNS, we all know what GPA you're shooting for. Frankly, you won't hit it if you're pulling four consecutive all-nighters as a freshman (and even if you do, you'll probably be so burnt out by the time law school rolls around that it'll be irrelevant). This is a flashing red light indicating a problem not with you, but with your schedule or your studying. Address the issue sooner rather than later.

I didn't burn out for the past 12 years, I can handle another 3.

Student, you are so right. I've increasingly come to realize how inefficiently I work. When I write my essays, I never jot down key quotations beforehand. So half the time I'm thumbing through the book looking for something to write about, and not even actually engaged in writing the essay itself. I'm also always tired from practice, and there are always been coming in and out of my dorm, and every few minutes my roommate pops into my room and says, "Hey check out this crazy Youtube video", it's no wonder it takes me such a long time.

wow, I admire your determination futurenyustudent. (btw, I also go to NYU---where do find it easiest to concentrate, Bobst? study lounge? your room?)

and also, I'm just wondering, how much sleep did you get in high school?
for me, personally, I'm getting more sleep now. (mostly because I'm lazier and procrastinating more though.)

star_star: I mostly hole up in my room, close my computer, and sit my butt down and read the material. Usually. When I need to use the computer, I find that telling myself that I don't get to (fill in the blank) until I finish this is a good way to get stuff done.

Btw, I'm getting less sleep but occasionaly it's because of procrastinating too. I averaged about 6-7 hours in high school, averaging 0-4 now. My roommate probably hates me because I never sleep when he does and I'm never up when he's up. I find that I'm much lazier too. I have second thoughts about ordering takeout because I have to go downstairs to pick it up. My friend says she just tells her roommate to pick it up.
