Ok i got my first C ever in life in my ap calc class. Is there still a chance I can get into berkeley or should i start preparing for the community college? :(

Ouch...um, you still have a chance...

Relax. The chance is still there.

I got a C (alg. 2) and 4 B's (2 in AP, 2 in CC classes) in my sophomore and junior years. I was still accepted. It's not the end of the world...

Same here, but no Cs.

No you have not ruined your life. Cal accepts a wide variety of applicants (not just like the top 4% of each school), and the important thing is to demonstrate that even though you got the "C," the experience taught you something and you've grown from it (I know, it's corny, but sometimes it's what they want to hear)...

Just end your life now. You are a complete and total failure.

I remember getting a C in a foreign language class (learning a new language was harder than calc for me) and I still got into Berkeley, but I mostly got As in all my other classes during my time in high school. So it's definitly not the end of the world and you can still get in as long as your grades are still good in other classes.

Relax :D it should be fine so long as this "C" is not a trend. There is a particular open-ended section on the application in which you can briefly explain to the adcom anything related to what appears on your application, so if you'd like, you can use this space to explain the reason you may have underperformed in this class. gluck!

So if you're in the top 4% you get admission to Berkeley? If not what if you're rank 1 do you get into Berkeley and you take the hardest classes?

You're thinking of ELC. ELC pretty much says if you don't get into any of the UCs you are still guaranteed to get into a UC, but they decide which UC it is. I think this past year it's UCI.

If you're ranked #1 in your class and you take the hardest classes then you have a good chance but it's not a 100% acceptance.

I don't know about that...I thought "A" stood for "A good job," B stood for "Below satisfaction" and "C" stood for "you have ruined your life."

i hope ur joking about that grade ranking.

how often does a thread about one C gonna show up?

One C is fine. Don't stress!

No, don't believe them.

A "C" in any class is horrible horrible grade. A's are ehh...they're okay. B's are an automatic "asian fail" and C's are...well just go jump off the Golden Gate Bridge before that bunch of berkeley civil engineering kids get what they want and put in higher guard rails to discourage suicide jumpers. You'll probably never make it into Cal and end up going to a community college (at best), or doing time in prison if you're unlucky.

I got a "C" sophomore year in math analysis cause my teacher was a jack ass. I got the highest grade on his damn final, but I didn't turn in a single hw assignment the entire year - well actually I turned in half of the first assignment. Yes that C ended my life. I got ELC (my highschool was "okay") I got into Cal. I'm doing engineering. And I got a C in math

Anyway, just go jump right now and safe everyone else the annoyance of pitying you.

edit: In case your thick, on some crazy medication, or just sleep deprived, I'm jk. Don't really jump. Suicide cases gives the SFPD a lot of paperwork to do.

Yeah the SFPD got a lot of other things to do than to fish people out of the bay such as...making sure that people don't kill each other in the Bayview.

i got a C in advanced math analysis (similar to the scenario above)...then i got Bs in math throughout high school (i took tonz of AP classes) and i volunteered and stuff...i still got into cal...although rejected from LA. Buh screw LA newayz...ur fine. I thought i would die too w/muh C...buh it really turned out fine --i even wrote one of my essays about it :D
