While scheduling for classes, my English requirement class became filled while registering so I took an Mosaics course that I had to take later on. However, this is one credit less therefore I have 14 credits. I have to withdraw from my chemistry course with my professor’s advice, what do I do? I’m already a full time student and paid my bill for my residency, will I still be able to be considered a full time student or will I have to be kicked out of my residence hall.
That depends on the policies at your school, which you don’t name. Some schools consider full-time to be as low as 9 hrs; others have higher thresholds. Check with your registrar or read the school handbook. Usually, FT/PT will not affect on-campus residency, but it may affect financial aid or tuition costs.
Check with ResLife. Be sure to let them know that you will be full time next semester. Often full time is considered 12 or more credits but the rules can vary from school to school.
At some campuses there are mini courses offered that take just half the semester for 1 credit. You might check and see if there are any of those you can add. Look in the course catalog. Agree it depends on what your college considers full time, too.
^ I was going to suggest that. Search for half semester classes, for instance in whatever physical education is called at your college.
Hurry though.
Talk to your adviser ASAP…if you are not full time you may not be eligible for financial aid or housing.
I believe that financial aid requires you to be full time, ie., at least 12 credits. Hence the need to hurry up as second half 1-credit physical education/Kenetics/health classes ought to be starting imminently.
It’s always good to register for such a class anyway if dropping a class would push you below 12 credits, they serve as a built-in cushion.
@MYOS1634 That is super smart. Always enrolling in a physical education class as a buffer.
Sometimes phys ed doesn’t count as an academic class (one of my kid’s college had this weird thing where it didn’t count as a credit when you registered, but AFTER you passed the class at the end of the semester, you got credit). I’m not sure it counted as part of the “full load” credits. So be careful with those.
Check with your advisor and the FA deppartment. At my daughter’s school, your status is determined at a certain date. After that if drop/withdraw a course, your status does not change. However make sure you understand the SAP policies.
