I hear that my chances are slim to none.

they have apartments where you have your own bedroom and share living/kitchen. They cost a bit more. The other problem is that its mostly 2nd years and up that live in them, so I dont know if they will have the same social environment as the freshman dorms. Just make sure you ask for them as early as possible.

ok. i will.

Would you recommend staying in the dorms for the first year? I like interacting with people and getting to knowing them and just chilling and having a fun time, while keeping academics serious. Also how many people would be in a dorm if i chose the dorm option?

I would HIGHLY recommend living in the first-year dorms. It is a highly social scene (depending on the types of people on your hall) and you can make some great friends. When our PL (kinda of like a CA for 1st years) told us that living in Sophomore and up dorms would be nothing compared to what we have now (in terms of openness, friendliness, and the likes). And he was right.

Enjoy Freshman year while you can.

Majority of the Freshman dorms are 2-person while some can be 3 (they crammed people in one of the dorms due to lack of space). But I think they reopened a previously closed dorm so you should be okay now…

Dude you will get in!!!

yeah i think i will live in the dorm. it seems fun enough. Plus i bet all the freshmen go to parties together :). If i make it in, i cant wait.

A friend and I both got into Georgia Tech, and I have the better “stats” out of the two of us. Here they are:

3.45 GPA

College Prep Economics
Honors English Lit
AP Physics
AP Calculus AB
AP Computer Science
Drawing & Painting

My overall average for the year (with 10 AP points added) was an 89.

Superscore on the SAT: 2110
680 Reading
760 Math
670 Writing

Individual Scores: 2020, 2040, 2060

I had almost no ECs to speak of. My only participation was with Mu Alpha Theta, National Art Honor Society, and Philosophy Club (which was student-created). Oh, and a tiny little Gay-Straight Alliance chapter that had 5 members.

You’ll get in with no problems.

The dorms suck at Tech. Also if your a freshman you cannot have a parking space on campus. I would recommend renting your own apt with close friends. As far as going to parties with your fellow dorm friends don’t count on it unless you think chess parties are cool. I graduated from Tech and have lived through it all. Oh yeah by the way you will get in with your stats, GT could care less about EC’s, that’s more for UGA applicants who can’t study so they do other activities .Sorry I just hate UGA, you will soon as well  Good Luck

Hey adnresgt I love to party. But i love any kind of party. Also i used to be the master at chess. I even went to a state competiton and got 3rd. I haven’t played in about 7 or 8 years.

But about every weekend i go to parties. There is alot of alcohol and there are alot of hot girls. They are just so much fun. But I know academics are more important, so i am willing to give up party life if i have to. But aren’t there other universities in atlanta where the girls are hot and there are a lot of parties? Do the non anti social techers go to these parties? (Tech schools have a high rate for anti social people)

I was being sarcastic about the chess party. I was trying to convey to you that most kids at Tech don’t party much, you have to find your group of friends and go out with them. Buckhead is alot of fun, theres many clubs to go to there. Also emory has pretty sweet looking honeys, make sure you make some friends there so you can get in to their parties.

its kind of a myth that freshman cant get parking permits. I know plenty of freshman who have had parking permits.

As far as dorm life, there are a lot of normal dorky people (videogame parties) and a lot of people who werent popular in high school who made the decision ‘i’m going to be cool in college’ and then overcompensate and ijust end up being annoying. There are also cool, likeable, fun people. It just depends on your luck and your ability to find friends.

The buckhead scene is almost dead, nearly all of the clubs have shut down. Midtown there are clubs that are fun sometimes but are generally expensive for college kids. Decatur/east atlanta has a fun trendy/hipster scene. Emory is emory, it is like being in New Jersey except in Atlanta. But sometimes they have fun parties as well, so do georgia state kids. Virginia Highlands is a bar scene with mixes, mostly young professional although also emory, UGA, GSU, and tech people for sure.

no myth dude, **** happened to me when i was a freshman
