I HONESTLY don’t think I’m really going to get into any of these places…Do tell?

can I get in…ANYWHERE?

Well right now I have this lingering feeling that I’m only getting into merced [confirmed] and riverside
So here is where I applied to

All of the UCs [Berkeley, LA, SD, davis, merced, SB, SC, riverside, Irvine]
UChicago [Early Action]
Northwestern [debate might help]
USC [scholarship deadline, will this make it harder for me to get in?]
Georgetown [foreign service…so not happening]
Cornell [Human ecology, I’m into public policy]
CMU [Humanities and social sciences]

-have had extremely demanding course load [one of the most demanding in fact]
Rank not assigned [as far as I know]
Go to one of best high schools in California, and in top 50 for the united states

all toss ups really, i think you will get in at least one. good luck!

The 2100 SAT is impressive. Keep your chin up. Scholarship deadline at USC will not make it harder for you to get in. You just won't get as much money, lol. You can make it into all the UC's. The exceptions are LA and Berkeley since their admissions are hard to gauge.

Wow..this is my first time posting here, and you guys are really nice and helpful. I’m sort of touched… :D

I think if anything pulls me in it may be my national awards in public speaking, general commitment to speech and debate and what do you think of my community college record and Extra Language on the side? I used to live in a different country and I was doing that language there outside of sshool from second grade and I like to say that I am a self-made bilingual! [which I am, and I think I will mention in the “diversity” essay for the comman app]

Also, will my lack of volunteering hurt? And another trend in my grade and and tests is that I do better in math and science [probably because it is the focus at my high school, 10 math and science APS, 3 Social science APs] and worse in history/English. But I really want to do poli sci/IR/policy type thing, and I haven’t had the opportunity to do those courses at my HS so I do them at community college.

Also—I don’t want to look like I am taking a cheap shot at human ecology, but I am applying into public policy at cornell, so do my prep courses and activities somewhat match up to that major’s expectations? [I fulfill the requirement off of the Cornell website for that college]

err anyone help me? haha

I hope diversity helps for USC.. i'm trilingual and have published many articles in newspapers in china, japan, and the u.s. :-/

i'm kinda in ur boat.. extremely good @ p.r. and speaking.

what's ur potential major?

Cornell's a far fetch for your stats... a 2100 shows that you are smart and works hard, but a strong consistent GPA shows more.

If your SAT is 2400 and GPA a 2.8, the college admission officers will look at you as a brilliant slacker.

nonetheless, good luck! i'm sure you'll get into all the UC's (except berekeley.. maybe LA)

Community College credits are nice.. but if the grades were from a bettter school, they'd be even nicer

If your school is top 50 in the nation, most courses in community colleges are like regular courses at your school.

I'm from pittsburgh and I took classes at University of Pitts and UCLA. Even some of the UCLA classes I experienced are not as demanding as the AP's at my school.

once again, good luck! and don't worry so much.. looks like you've already done a great job :)

Which national tournaments in debate did you go to? Are we talking NFL/NCFL or just invitationals that boast competitors from all over the country?

You know that your GPA is low so I would suggest focusing your essays on things that you've spent a lot of time on and that you obviously love to do (DEBATE).

I don't know about the other UCs so I can only really do Berkely and LA.

Cal (UCB)- Bigger reach
UCLA- Reach
USC- Less of a reach
Northwestern- Reach
Georgetown- Big reach
Cornell -Bigger reach

The thing that hurts you is your math IIC score and your GPA. I think that an internship with the Senator would have definately helped. If you know him/her personally and pretty well, maybe you could ask them to write you a letter about what they saw in you that made them decide to hire you. Of course, this doesn't apply if you already submitted your apps.

More on your GPA: colleges won't want brilliant slackers. They'd rather see someone who has a great GPA and took the most rigorous courseload than a 2400. An SAT score is a one time thing (or two, or three) but your GPA helps the college see how you would do in school, not in taking standardized tests.

Are you a minority?

is it true that UC riverside & merced will acccept anyone who meets the minimum requirements? what about out-of-state people?

highereducation:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

im a model minority [indian], tournaments are national invites [with TOC bids...that i haven't got yet, but have come close to doing so]...my GPA sucks, um my SAT hopefully is going to be even better for this december score and i haven't even completed pre-calc yet so would that give less weight to my math IIc score?

yes it is true
