I’ve always wanted to go to LSU’s vet school, and I just started my second year in August after finishing with a not so great GPA last year. I took Dual enrollment courses in high school and here are my grades from junior and senior year of high school:
Math 1021-B
Math 1022-C
ENG COMP- B
Public speaking-B
Math 1021(second time around)-A
Math 1022(second time around)-A
I finished my first year at LSU with LSU totals of 3.27 and LSU CUM( including dual enrollment from another college) of 3.12. I made a C in BIO 1201 unfortunatly
Until this point all I could picture myself doing was applying to vet school. I’ve already worked in a vet clinic, had a student job assisting with poultry research, and I’ve made very strong connections volunteering. Im taking my GRE in a month and I’m confident that I will get a decent score because I’m not horrible at standardized tests( I made a 30 on the ACT). However, I was calculating my GPA and even if I make an A in every course I take in the future my GPA will still average to be only around a 3.65(ish).
As i was considering what my back up plan I realized there aren’t very many things I can picture myself being happy doing for long periods of time. I always used to say I wanted to be a vet because I loved animals, was fascinated by medicine and illnesses, and didn’t want to work with people. Looking at myself now, I’ve turned into a big “people” person as well as animal person. And the idea of going to med school is starting to really excite me, especially considering the websites I’ve looked into say anything over a 3.5 GPA and a good MCAT score is competitive
Ive been trying to weigh the pros and cons of each, and decide what I should do. So my questions are:
(A.) Should I retake Bio 1201 and go for a better grade like I did with my Math 1021 and 1022 grades?
(B) Is considering vet school or med school even realistic with my current GPA, or should I find something else to do?
Thank you!
