I just got accepted to SDSU and it says:

We are pleased to inform you that you have been admitted to San Diego State University for summer 2013. All fall 2013 admitted first-time freshmen who have remediation needs in English and/or mathematics are required to begin their SDSU course work this upcoming summer and enroll in a new program designed specifically for students like you.

Do I have to take summer courses? How hard are them? What grade do I need to pass?

Thank you!

It sounds like your scores in some way suggest that you need remediation in some area. My brother had to take two remedial courses to “boost” his abilities before he took his regular courses. These courses were for no credit, and actually put his coursework behind. He still needs to take a summer course to get back on track. (He is currently at a 3.7 GPA for his college, so , guess the “remediation” worked) It cost extra money, and sound as though it will for you as well. Perhaps by having you come in and take the coursework before your program actually begins will keep you on track for your degree. It will most likely cost you extra money.

Did u pass the EPT/ELM test? If u didnt take it u should register by the 16 of march. If ur from CA they let u take the Early Assessment Program test when ur in 11th grade when u take the cst and if u pass you don’t have to take remedial courses. here’s the link to check http://www.csumathsuccess.org/eap_results the link also give you other ways to be exempt.
But i think u could also be exempt if u get at least a 3 on AP language test and calc test but im not sure. u should look in to it.
some one told me these are the ways to get exempt:

Those who are exempt from taking the test:
-People who passed the EAP in Junior year.
-People who scored 500 in reading for 550 for Math on SAT reasoning
-People who completed a introductory Math or English course in college
-People who scored 22 English or 23 Math on ACT
-Passing any AP test for English or Math during high school.
Sent from my LG-P999 using CC

If you scored high enough on your SATs (I know it’s 550 or higher for math, don’t remember English) and haven’t sent in official scores, that could also be affecting your status. If not, you’ll have to take the summer courses either at SDSU or another CSU.

This means that you have been admitted to SDSU, but you are required to take a summer course in order to attend the school in the fall. You need to sign up to take the EPT/ELM (whichever you need, or both), and if you pass you will be exempt from the summer course. You can find more information about summer admits on the SDSU website.
