i applied to vanderbilt for transfer, and because i messed up during the first semester, i wrote a letter with my application about how i've improved in the second semester, including an estimated gpa of 3.9 for the semester. now that i've got my actual gpa, it's not quite a 3.9 ....

now vanderbilt wants an updated transcript...and i don't want to look like i lied about my gpa or get rejected because my gpa hasn't improved like i said it would...what should i do? should i write another letter with the transcript to explain my grades?

How far off was it? Just send the transcript and say that you didn’t do as well on the final in “xxx” class as you expected. If “explain” means make excuses, I say no. You should say what you learned from the experience and how it will help you in the future.

ThatPoshGirl: that was the excuse i used in my first letter-that i needed time to adjust into a new environment and a hard major…and this semester i only improved very slightly. i was told that the review committee wants to see my final grades before they make the decision…so i really don’t know what to do now
