Hello, I am a rising senior. Here are my stats
UW GPA 3.2 I know this is very low and there have been some issues in my past that have interfered. For example, I had to help my family when my father was sick.
Race: African American
W GPA: 4.2
SAT: 2260 CR: 800 W: 700 M: 760
ACT: 33 (might retake)
SAT Subject tests: Biology (M)- 790 Chemistry- 770 Math 2- 800
ECs: Research- I am working on project that deals with micro-fluidic technology. I am also working on a project that deals with drug discovery in the area of neurodegenerative diseases (ALS). I am in contact with a lab in MA General Hospital and a lab in Northwestern and one in UChicago. I developed a program that helps develop schools and the education programs in my native country. Worked as a pharmacy technician at the local hospital. I am the VP of science national honor society. I also planned for the take heart america initiative at my local elementary schools.
I am a member of all of the honor societies at my school. I am the VP and head of the PR committee of the medical club.
I am a immigrant student and the first to go to college.
Emory, Northwestern, UChicago, Vanderbilt, UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, and UF (University of Florida)
Also I know this is crazy but I have thought of John Hopkins as well. I know I have no chance for most of these colleges but just tell me if I have a chance.
I do have a backup which deals with transferring to one of these universities or ivies for my junior year. Also what do colleges mainly look for in the transfer admissions process?
Thanks

all of the schools you’ve listed would be a reach. Try and raise your test scores. Write strong essays too!

I think you’re being too hard on yourself. Your SAT I and IIs are awesome, your weighted GPA shows you’re taking a challenging courseload, and you’ve got the hook of being the first in your family to attend college. ECs are good-- I think you should focus on that research and the education program you developed.

I would include a statement explaining the family circumstances which prompted the drop in your grades.

UChicago-Reach
Vanderbilt-Reach
UCLA-Low reach
Carnegie Mellon- Low reach/high match
Johns Hopkins-Reach
UF-Low match
