I'm a 3rd-year CC student who applied November of 2008, and at that time I got into UCSB, UC Davis, and UC Irvine.

This time, I only got into UC Irvine and UC Davis.

I think one of the reasons why I may have been rejected by SB is because I accidentally put that I had a TAG agreement by confusion, when I actually didn't.

Can I appeal the decision? And if so, how do I go about it?

Thank you.

If I may, what was the reason behind why you didn’t attend SB, Davis, or Irvine in the first place?

A variety of reasons. First of all, I don’t think I was prepared enough to live on my own. Secondly, I wanted to go in a different academic route (I started off as an English major and then decided to become a Science major.)

the postmark deadline:
Transfer applicants: May 22, 2010

^ I still don’t understand. Is that the last day to appeal? Do I have to send an appeal by mail, or can I do it electronically or by phone?

I’m clueless as to what this process involves :(

you need to have your stuff POSTMARKED by the 22nd. This means you need to knock out most of everything within the next day and get it mailed off ASAP.

I just looked up some information and this is what I found:

"
To apply for admission after a filing period has ended, or for a UCSB term that will be closed to new applicants, you must submit a written appeal. Consideration for appeals is based on your overall application and extenuating circumstances.

In your letter of appeal, please include:

* A statement describing your special circumstances.
- The quarter and year for which you are applying.
- Whether you are applying as a freshman or transfer student.
- Intended major.
- Full legal name (no nicknames).
- Address and phone number.
- E-mail address.
- Date of birth.
- The last four digits of your social security number (if applicable).
- Copies of all transcripts.

Mail your appeal to:

Admissions Review Committee
Office of Admissions
1210 Cheadle Hall
Santa Barbara, CA 93106-2014

Or fax a copy to:
(805) 893-2676

Once Undergraduate Admissions receives your appeal, you should receive written notification of the decision within four to six weeks. If the appeal is granted, you may then fill out an electronic application online. (Note: The data in your application will need to match the data in your appeal letter for the online application to be processed.) "

Since I got accepted to UCI (and that would be my second choice) should I do the SIR for it? (since the deadline to commit to a school is June 1st.) It says the UCSB appeal is a process that may take weeks, so I don’t know what to do in this situation.

But yeah, so the appeal is basically has to be written by you in sort of an essay form. It’s not like an application or anything, right? And it says I need transcripts, but I’m gonna try to attain at least unofficial transcripts for now since I don’t think I’ll be able to get official ones this quickly.

Uhh if you didn’t get in with “TAG” (even by confusion), why would they reconsider if you actually didn’t have TAG?

Well, that’s the thing. TAG is pretty much guaranteed admission. But I was rejected. I guess they saw that I didn’t take the classes necessary or had the GPA required to meet that TAG agreement, thus denying me acceptance. Like I said, it was a mistake on my part. But I didn’t make the same mistake for UCI/UC Davis, and I got accepted to those, making me think this isn’t a coincidence.

Blah. I’m even confusing myself. I may just stick with UCI, but I don’t know.

Its highly unlikely that they rejected you just because you put a TAG by accident. I applied to UCSB for Biz econ and even though they said TAG does not apply for impacted majors, I still checked the box and got accepted. I know this sounds ass, but I’m trying to save you time that you might otherwise spend on an appeal that won’t go through. UCI is also a great school.
