I lied. How can I fix this?

I told this adult in an offhand comment that I was in the cooking club, and now he's making a big deal out of it and saying that I should become a chef and go into a culinary arts school. He is an important person and I am really scared he might do a background check or something. He is recommending schools, camps, even reality shows. He also has a lot of influence in the whole showbiz and culinary art school areas. I actually do want to go into cooking, but I have never been in the cooking club. I suppose I can join one now. =</p>

Please tell me I'm paranoid.
Or give me advice.

I know I'm a total idiot, but now I'm freaking out.

HELP!

Ummm lol that was kind of dumb.. Anyway, if you have a cooking club around your area or at your school or whatever, you'd better join it right away, or somehow explain to this adult that you were.. stretching the truth a bit. If you guys aren't that close, you could tell him that although you're "in" this cooking club, you aren't that interested in it to go to a culinary arts school.

Okay wait you said you do want to go into cooking. I highly doubt the guy's going to do a background check on you... anyway. Just join the club.

I know I am such an idiot. I went home and was like @$#@$*&# what did I just DO?!

Anyone else?

You must accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior. Or at least some people would tell you that.

go live in a cave

idk, hard to think of a way to fix this: tell the truth, and tell him you want to join..i'm sure this person'll understand.

Bake him a cake.

^ you know, that's a lot better than telling the truth. i'd want a cake everytime someone lied to me ;)

if there is no cooking club around, join the science club or something and pretend to get really excited about that. if he brings up cooking, talk about how you just discovered how exciting science is and how you'd love to be a (insert something in the science field). when the time comes to apply to culinary school, explain that science lost it's thrill and you rediscovered that cooking is right for you.

kids change their minds about career choices all the time; he can't hold it against you.

No, don't tell him the truth. Convoluted and fantastic lying is always the best way to go about things ;)

I doubt that merely being part of a club will do much. Even if the man is connected, no big selective program is going to deny you b.c you aren't in such a club. There'll be more relevant matters - like, how well you can cook.
