I love being the bearer of not-so-good news!

What GPA range are you talking about, miktau? I didn't mention any GPA range.

Let's hope as much as we can for us both!

Meant to say rank. School doesnt weight, I take 9 AP's plus a college macro class, you get my point.

Even if your school doesn't weight, Vandy will. They reconfigure weighted GPAs for all their applicants. Taking all those AP classes is amazing, and it will help!

hilsa, so I see you on another board. I think we bombarded the FSU board with enough Vandy talk anyway.

One thing, do you know how Vandy reconfigure weighted GPAs? Is it like how UF/FSU does for our state or something different?

Yes, I think it's pretty similar. They take out your band/drivers ed/health/whatever and take your weighted GPA from the rest.

I think the only reason that they have a larger influx of applications is because people see that they can punch a button to add Vanderbilt to the college thing and request a fee waiver to be sent or can pay the app fee. Literally done in 3 minutes.

Actually, Vandy Prayer, that is the most likely reason.

I mean really, for anyone who is applying to other schools on the Common App, it requires them no more effort since Vandy doesn't have any supplemental essays. Damn.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean that every one is qualified for Vandy. I think the admissions is the same for Vandy, same qualifications. I just think the people admitted had great things going for them other than ACT. Maybe the class of '13's middle ACT may go down... Who knows? Who cares? Vandy will still be a top 20 school.

ugh..i feel you ModernChem...

Feb. 15th seems so far away...i need to find a new hobby!

What do you think about Vandy Admissions then? Do y'all think it's a number game to them or do they really wanna know the applicant as a person? I mean, if they really wanna the strength of each applicant outside of GPA/test scores then they surely can ask for at least one supplemental essay/short response.

Hopefully they really do wanna know the applicant as "a person" because I sent my admission counselor 3 supplemental writing pieces and she said she was looking forward to read all of them - maybe that will help my chances. Ugh, I am so anxious...I wish April 1st would come already!

I am going to begin a supplemental essay... Thanks so much for that advice. ;-)

The people with amazing test scores actually usually turn out to be the ones with tons of ECs and whatnot. Everyone thinks that people who get perfect scores are nerds who don't have any friends, but that's not true for the most part.

@ Vandyprayer - No problem! One of my writing pieces was a letter to the Admission Committee regarding some really bad personal issues going on this year and my junior year. And the other one were information about a non-profit I am starting because the Commonapp didn't give me sufficient room to explain it. The last one was just a one page creative writing piece. I think it's a good idea send a bit more information to them, as long as it is relevant, because it shows that you really want to go to Vandy and aren't just applying because it can literally "take 3 minutes."

@ hilsa Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. I didn't mean to say that people with perfect grades/test scores are nerds or have no lives. Rather, I meant with Vandy Admissions, if they truly wanted to know each applicant outside grades/test score, then like most other competitive school; they would ask for sort of supplemental essay/short response. Because honestly, I felt as the Commonapp didn't give me enough room to explain fully why I wanted to go to Vandy so badly. But that's just me.

Thats waht you inteview is for

They don't factor in how much you wanna go there in the review process, which is a total lie lol. Send more essay people! Take the interviews when available!

I REALLY hope they read past test scores....i mean REALLY bad...

I regret not sending anything extra in, i wonder if its to late...probably, i think they wanted everything at once. I'm hoping my interview goes great, thats the only think i have left...but i don't think the interview even matters much

You can send in extra essays at anytime... One of the interns told me this. So did my admissions counselor.

^ Ditto that. I applied way back in November (ugh...the wait is so long) and have emailed my counselor stuff in between then and just last week - right after the deadline. They are very friendly and will gladly accept any new material to be added to your file.

In the interview, show how much you love Vandy. I'm sure that helps somewhat. It will atleast make them feel bad for waitlisting/denying someone who wanted to go there after admitting others who are just applying.

If I mail out another essay tomorrow, would that be bad?

hilsa, I would email/call your (well, actually our admission counselor considering we're both from FL) and just ask her to add the essay to your file by attaching it onto the email. We both have Harper Haynes and she is a really nice lady.
Here's her email:
