I love Florida State because the campus is inviting and Tally is NOT like Miami.

The people, the campus, the history, the academic quality, the arts, the association with the Seminole Tribe, location and the fact we're not Gators. ;)

Of all universities in Florida FSU has the most involved and interesting history. No other school has been in the same place as long as FSU, nor has the kind of involvement FSU has with the origins of the state.

The campus is simply beautiful and unique. All others are mostly flat and featureless. UF is second, but every other place looks like a junior college to me. New College is unique, but a niche school.

The people are friendly, but seriously academic. I've met some simply brilliant folks at FSU. Some would call them "scary smart". ;) I've also always found FSU to be incredibly diverse - extremely good arts (ever walk through the College of Music building? I used to walk through just to listen to the music majors practice) and equally brilliant scientists. Then go and listen to a debate on politics between the local Socialist students and the more mainstream parties (remember I was a student in the 1970s).

The sports aspect was always fun as were the informal games all over campus.

The band would occasionally march through campus before games and play the game-time favorites.

The student-run newspaper - The Florida Flambeau - was usually very interesting to read. Lots of subtle, funny remarks (some not so subtle) and amusing personal ads. Very political, of course, but no one cared.

The seasons, especially Spring, were simply breathtaking on campus. Azaleas everywhere, dogwoods, all sorts of flowers. It was literally hard to focus on studies in Springtime, between the environment and the opposite sex. ;)

Oh yes...great free concerts and plays, movies, all over.

Great looking campus, fantastic people, soooo much to do.

when we visited it seemed like it was not difficult to get tickets to the football and basketball games. that seems like a huge plus for my son. it would be disappointment to attned a big D1 school and not be able to attend the games!!!!some of the other schools visited warned it was quite hard to get tickets...

it is quite hard to get tickets to big rival games, such as Miami and Florida, where there isn't enough tickets to satisfy the demand for them.
