I must, I must, I must increase my rank!

I have some questions about class rank.

First of all; W rank - not UW rank, is looked at, right?

Is the rank that's sent to colleges calculated at the end of your junior year or does it differ from school to school?

& finally: I'm trying to develop a master plan to drastically improve my ranking. My school won't give us a clue of what it is until the end of next year :( I've figured out what one of the few overachieving Asians in my grade's W GPA will be..

Her:
4.0 (9th)
4.0 (10th)
4.0 (11th)
+.25 (Weight added to 9th for taking all H's)
+.25 (Weight added to 10th for taking all H's
+.28 (Weight added to 11th for taking 4 AP's..Guessing here, but probably correct)
Final UW GPA: 4.0
Final W GPA: 4.78

Me:
3.4 (9th)
3.7 (10th)
4.0 (11th.. don't judge me for predicting!)
+.10 (Weight added to 9th for taking 2 H's)
+.25 (Weight added to 10th for taking all H's)
+.33 (Weight added to 11th for taking 4 AP's & 1 H)
Final UW GPA: 3.70
Final W GPA: 4.38

At my school, .05 weight is added for each H's course taken & .07 is added for each AP course.

Soo, roughly 40 kids are on the H's track right now (not sure how many will take AP's, I'm guessing less?)

12 kids (give or take) on the H's/AP track will have a Final UW GPA of 3.8 - 4.0. Most of these 12 will probably take 3 AP's max. next year.

Do I have a shot at the #10 spot? Should I take 5 AP's next year? (my first year taking AP's) or would that be absolutely crazy if I want to invest a lot of time in my EC's?

I think this is one of the reasons that the county I live in doesn’t allows schools to rank students…

Don’t take a class just because you want to somehow prove that you’re better than everyone else.

I don’t want to prove that I’m better than anyone LOL…
My goal is to improve my rank. I didn’t take all H’s freshman year (horrible mistake) and my UW GPA was low, so I need to do somethin about ittt

I suggest getting off CC and focusing on your academics rather than creating repetitive threads.

Yeah, that is a good idea… but it shouldn’t concern anyone besides me :]

I’m looking for suggestions on how to improve my rank… and answers to the questions that I listed.

Honestly just try your best and stop being a repetitive babbler. Nobody cares about your grades honestly. They’re your grades. If you flunked out of high school, we wouldn’t care. Just saying.

I just gave you a suggestion. Get off CC and focus on your schoolwork. The repetitiveness and uselessness of your threads have become extremely irksome as of late.

Maybe you should make your goal “learning for fun” and getting grades that go along with a love of learning?

HSL is procrastination. To me, worst than facebook. So my first advice is to get off.

^^My sentiments exactly, and you calculating what AP’s will do to raise your grade isn’t making you look smarter, it’s just making you look more annoying and OCD.

LOL is your title from Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret?

LOL you’re just like ChocolateBanana, except not quite

You are kind of obsessed.

Not kind of - dramatically over-obsessed.

Relax about the rank. Like, chill. If you compare your success based on the rank of others, you’re set to fail. Do YOUR best, based on what you know YOU can do.

Class rank is by far the most overrated thing & this is coming from someone who is rank 1. You need to relax.

You need to stop predicting your junior GPA. And rank.

^ This. Also, posting large numbers of threads about your situation is likely not going to get you anywhere.

I concur with the above poster who concurs with the above poster.

lol what school do you go to? i go to a school in CT.

Haha yeah, so I know that I’m OCD. I see a therapist…

I’m obsessed with perfection and I focus on the past too much.

NspiredOne: Welll, I live really close to Greenwich.

To the OP, you need to calm down, enjoy your high school and simply do things that you like and enjoy. Don’t take the AP course for just a GPA boost, but rather take it because you find the class interesting or you need a challenge. If you do something for the grade, years from know you’ll reflect back on high school and feel like you wasted great years and opportunities.
