I need to somehow get a laptop before I leave for the PSP
I was considering either the MacPro or the Dell XPS that everyone is talking about ( leaning more with the Mac)
I know Cornell gives students discounts for Macs, but Ive never used a Mac before

But here is what I'll be using my laptop for:
- generally for assignments (microsoft office) and watching some movies
- I dont play video games
- Im a bio major, so no art for me
- Im sorta good with computers
- money isnt realli a huge issue for me

So help me decide please, thanks! :)

If money is not a problem for you and you're already leaning toward the Mac....go for the MacBook Pro. It's powerful and idiot proof :-)

if im getting a mac...
I think i should buy it through apple site instead of cornell because theyre having a promotion for a free 80G Ipod Touch/ 80G Ipod Nano and $100 off printer
Pretty sweet huh?

Just wondering, what's the cheapest way to get a laptop? Is it through Cornell Store or the Dell/Apple eStore with education discount?

Yeah...I bought my PowerBook when they had that promotion in 2004...I still have my ghetto iPod.

Oy....that was so long ago :-(

Right now...I think you should use the Apple store if you want to take advantage of the free iPod and printer rebate.

Otherwise...I would purchase through the Cornell Store to get a good deal.

hm..looks like i would have to go out and buy microsoft office then. They dont have it in a bundle like cornell store does

Yeah....that is one of the downsides. But, you do get the education discount on software.

FYI, the Ipod touch and nano that are free are only 8 GB not 80. The biggest the touch comes in is 32gb and nano is 8gb. It is still a great deal though, and I may get it toward the end of the promotion.

wait a few more weeks for when the new macbooks come out. Rumor has it they'll have aluminum cases. And they'll be awesome. And I will buy one.

oh I can't wait for the new macbook :-)

when are the new macbooks rumored to appear?

Ugh. I was counting on the new macbooks in mid June as had originally been rumored. There was also some possibility that information would come out today with the reveal of the new iphone. I researched it a bit, and it looks like the new macbooks will come out in August.

AppleInsider | Confirmed Intel delay will push back MacBook overhauls

I'm a PC user switching to a MAC and I'm not sure if I can wait that long!

i just hope they still have the free ipod touch deal plus the student discount going on. And they don't verify the fact that I graduated already yet still have a student ID. And I hope my girlfriend doesn't read up on the promo so I can pawn off the free ipod as a $300 gift to her.

haha i know that sucks for everyone else but i just bought a new macbook a few days ago so i'm pretty happy because i would feel bad if new ones were to come out in a few weeks.

Well..the promotion apparently end on Sept 15
So I guess I should wait then for the new macbook?
Is it going to be as expensive as the Air?
If it is..it might not be worth it then :/

No one knows what it will cost or be like, but I will almost guarantee you they will cost the same or less than the current ones (probably the same). Jacking up the prices when they already have some of the most expensive laptops on the market is not a good idea. I'll be getting that new iphone on launch day for 199.

do NOT get the air. its really for businessmen who travel and fly constantly. there are no places to put USB ports or anything. plus, last month, a guy from my area didnt know that his air was wrapped in his newspaper and accidently recycled it =O

The Air is just like a very expensive frisbee :-)

ah man, if the new macbook is being released in july, we wont be able to use the free printer rebate :(
