Right, I failed at that but whatever. I want to transfer into a few top Universities in the US from UIUC. My ideal option would be UChicago. I am an economics major.

My plan was this:

Freshman year try and transfer into the Engineering department from the econ department, apply to UChicago as an engineer, and then when in UChicago, change major AGAIN into economics.

Is this is a wise idea? Or should I stick with econ the whole way through freshman year, and then apply to UChicago.

FAQs.

Why go to the engineering department when you could just stick with economics?

Engineering department is much highly ranked and competitive to get into (even as an inter collegial transfer).

Why are you doing this?

I know some of it is prestige, but Chicago is renowned for its economics programme.

No really, is it just about prestige?
-45% prestige, 55% the programme. Also, should add this in somewhere, seeing as I am out-of-state (even country) tuition fees and no aid are tough on my parents. So private aid-bearing institutions look good in my eyes.

I’m not keeping a closed mind about this, and do not mind at all transferring to other universities. My HS credentials are quite poor grade-wise (well 2 classes destroyed my GPA), but have had quite good ECs and lots of work experience (more work than interning).
