Took the Act and studied out of the /barron's ACT 36 2nd edition/The red book/1296 question PR and achieved at least a composite of 30+. I'm planing on taking the ACT in September and i just want to know if its possible to at least get a composite of 31(E=31 M=33 R=31 S=27 or higher :D) while using each of the books above. Any advice on how to use these books and to achieve a composite of 31(Or even higher)

bump 10 char

I got a 31 through the red book, it raised my score 2 points. My biggest problems are very specific and isolated, I only don’t understand a few concepts from each section. So when I take a practice test, I only go through the problems I got wrong and try to understand the concepts. Then I take another and do the same.

Yeah, it’s really hard to improve once you’re above 30 because of the amount of questions you’re getting wrong, it’s impossible to focus on a concept that you’ll unlikely see again.

I achieved a 33 by merely doing practice test after practice test after practice test. I never read books from cover to cover, but bought every book I could find just for their practice tests. I needed the most practice on science and reading (to increase my pace) and so I did all science/reading practice test I could get my hands on. Ultimately ended up pretty successful. Good luck! :)

I achieved a 33 by reading the PR book and taking one practice test. I scored well in all sections, but my writing score could be improved but I’m happy.

I got a 33. I used the PR book and practiced a few tests. I’m like americanjoker…my writing could be better but it is still in the midpoint so I’ll be OK with a 33.

I skimmed the Barron’s book, but honestly the biggest help in my opinion was just being familiar with the test and its format… I felt that was the biggest reason I got my score from a 32 to a 35. Good luck!

Which PR book? Can you share the specific book?

I used the “Barron’s 6 practice tests for the ACT” book. I just did practice test after test in the week before the test. The Barron’s tests were MUCH harder than the real thing, I couldn’t believe how easy the real thing was in comparison. The thing I liked about the book was the explanations for every question, particularly helpful in the reading and English sections because they help you notice the patterns. I scored a 36 so I would recommend Barron’s (though there were 3-4 times when the answer they said was correct was clearly wrong…still a good book)
