I have two glowing recs. From two teachers and one from my counselor…

And I am Native American if that helps any. =\ I saw somewhere that there were only 15 Native Americans at Rice as Under Graduates. !

Remember, I am applying Early Bird. And I am going in for an interview soon. =)

Oh, and I am applying for a major in Philosophy.

Annnnd my brother is currently enrolled at Rice. (He is one year older than I am xD)

From what I've heard, being 100% Native American (are you?) helps your chances A LOT at any competitive college. Colleges are always looking to recruit more bright Native American students, because they are one of the most underrepresented ethnic groups in top-tier American colleges. Take this with a grain of salt, though; this is mostly just hearsay and rumors, and it can't be truly confirmed by anyone except an adcom.

Overall I'd say your app is looking real good, especially with a retaken SAT (maybe try the ACT if the SAT doesn't treat you very kindly?). Good luck.

(It's cool to see another debater here. What events do you do? I do policy and occasionally LD)

No, not 100% sadly. My Grandmother was full Cherokee on my father's side and on my mother's side my great grandmother was full Cherokee. I have enough to get a certified degree card but sadly, I can not because of the missing birth certificates. =\ (We're working on it... =P)

I do LD debate mainly but occasionaly CX. Student Congress takes the cake for me though. ;)

I may just take the ACT- th SAT hates me with a passion. =(

Your brother got into Rice without the tribal card?

My parents are divorced- my brother has chosen not to acknowledge any Native American ties (as has my mother- long story about being disowned and what not) I am still close to my brother though. =)
Anyway, my brother got in through high SAT scores + loads of ECs and a near perfect GPA.
=\

Anyway, a tribal card is not really needed to claim NA ancestry- just a census record or a Dawes list record. I have both. I just can't get the card.

I am classified as NA on my school records too, and (from what I have been led to believe) that is really all colleges need.... but I am still trying to get a certificate out of respect
