I applied ED at least by November 1st (Common App was giving me trouble…) and I still haven’t gotten an interview. A member on this site told me that it was too late for me to get an interview. I know it shouldn’t affect my chances of getting or not, but I’m slightly worried.

Is there anything I can do to get an interview? Does it really not have any influence on my acceptance or denial from Brown? Also, why haven’t I gotten an interview? Is it because I wasn’t a strong enough applicant?

If you can’t tell from my thread, I’m kind of freaking out.

thank you so much–mdrm812

P.S. I live in Tampa…so any Tampanians, have you gotten an interview?

If it makes you feel any better, I was supposed to have an interview on Sunday, then Monday, then Tuesday, then Wednesday, then Thursday, then Friday… ended up with no interview. It would be a miracle if he ended up calling today, which is a Saturday where I am. Sigh. But the interview means very little so keep your head up!

mdrm - fireandrain really does know what he’s talking about, so you shouldn’t worry. I know it’s discouraging, but it really all depends on whether they have alumni available to do interviews. It’s possible that they don’t have any alumni in Tampa, or, of the few they have, only one is available this year, for whatever reason.

As for who gets an interview and who doesn’t, I can assure you that the people coordinating the interviews have enough to do without readings everyone’s files. All the names from any given region probably just go in a hat, and they pull as many as they have space for.

Plenty of candidates get accepted every year without interviews. And even more candidates who get interviews get denied. So maybe you’ll have better luck without the interview! ;)

No. There is NO connection between your application/your credentials and getting an interview. If you’ve read the beginning of the sticky interview thread, you would know that the alum who assigns students to alumni interviewers does not see your application and doesn’t know whether your SAT scores are 2400 or 1400.

Why didn’t you get an interview? Most likely it’s because an alum dropped the ball somewhere. Either the chair in your area didn’t do his/her job and did not make assignments, or more likely, the alum who got your name was out of town, too busy, didn’t open the email, didn’t realize the deadline was Dec. 1, was dealing with a health issue, etc.

Dancing writer – you should report what happened to you to the admissions office. An alum who postpones an interview like that should not be asked to do interviews again.

Admissions knows from years of experience that it is not the applicant’s fault if there is no interview. They are very competent in making admissions decisions without an interview write-up.

Also: There is no connection between when you submitted your application and whether you get an interview.

And: If you don’t get in early, then you can get an interview during the regular decision round.

I am from Tampa; I had my interview on Tuesday. I think Tampa people were late in receiving interviews because mine was scheduled rather last minute. I wouldn’t let it bother you at all though, as fireandrain has said, they are by no means mandatory or detrimental to miss.
