I once killed a man

EVALUATE MY CHANCES!

Sorry for the false attention grabbing title.

I WANT TO BE A JOURNALISM MAJOR!

This has been posted before, so please don't comment on that, it's just that when I posted it, I was unsure of what my final Freshmen-Junior GPA will be. That was like... three month ago.

Here is a shorthand view of what my app might look

Unweighted GPA: 3.38
Weighted GPA: Around 3.70
SAT: 1500 (M=470, V=500, W=530) Retaking in October
I would project my final scores to look something like M=510 V=530 Writing=560
ACT: Haven't gotten score back
My school does not keep class rank!

Extracurriculars:

Ohio University (No.1 Choice)

University of Missouri
Virginia Commonwealth University

Keep in mind, I want to be a journalism major!

Also, what do you think are safe scores for all those schools?

I know it's not HYPS/IVY, but try!

Killing people was like.. -50 on that "Perfect Application" thread a while back. No matter how biased that thing was, I don't think killing people is a good EC.

I hope you didn't take that seriously lol, just did it to get attention

I also need to add something to my list

Leadershiop:
4 1/2 years in the Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA)
-1 year as Chapter secretary
-1 year as chapter newspaper editor
-1 year as chapter website editor
-3 years as chapter sports coach
-Planned numerous programs

Come on guys, I know its not HYPS, but does anyone have any input?

Why Journalism instead of Sport Management for you?

Anyways, you're in at OSU and at OU. OU has fantastic Sport Management and Journalism programs. If OU is #1, i'd go there, it's perfect for your career.

I'm almost certain I know your name by the way as I look at Ourlads on occasion. Making people pay for the depth charts was one of the worst moves you could have made.

I think you're in at ASU and U of A but bring up your SATs to 600+ in each section if you can for the honors college/U of A admission. It's the slightly "smarter" school of the two, in my opinion. :-)

The schools u listed are all relatively easy to get into if not really easy.

Safeties:
Hofstra, Cal Sate, UA, ASU, FIU, VCU, Ball, BowlGReenSTate, OU

Match: USF, Mizzou, OSU

Look ur list is not really strong imo. You have a ton of safeties u dont need.
Most schools there dont have solid Journalism programs.
Out of ur list so far, id only leave Mizzou, OU, OSU, UA. The rest eliminate.

Schools to consider adding:
- BU: Reach
- Indiana: Safety/match
- Tulane: Reach
- UMiami: Reach
- UF: High reach if OOS. If IN State then Match/reach

All those have very good schools of communications/journalism. Even though most are reaches, u already have several safeties and if u can raise ur SAT scores u have good chances at the aforementioned schools.

Actually the Cronkite school at ASU is pretty respectable... and I would say it's about match level for you.

What if my SAT scores don't improve as much as I'd like?

I plan to major in either journalism or broadcast journalism and minor in sports managment.

A2Wolves6,

Do you have a name on the forum, maybe I can hook you up lol

In all of your opinions, how much are my ECs helping my app?

I to have heard that the WC school at Zona State is superb!

You actually have poor chances at OSU with those test scores, even your projected ones. I got to a solid public school in Ohio and the cutoff for OSU was about a 3.6 and a 27 ACT for kids at my school. The only chance you have at OSU is due to your Tourette Syndrome. I know a kid with a 2.6 and a 24 ACT who got in, but he is going to die within 15 years (I forget what illness he has). Tourette Syndrome is by no means as bad as that, but they might like the diversity that you bring.

I am actually out of state.

I talked to an admissions advisors who said that they are making it a tad easier for out of state.

I'd say OSU is a Reach for you. Too low of a GPA and too low of SAT.

OU is great though, and you should be able to get in.

I'm starting to become very excited about the prospect of becoming a Bobcat!!!!!

Any other thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

i wonder what would happen if u did lol... presuming you had the same resume and no other criminal records

Have you ever considered NYU?

I couldn't get into NYU.

How much do you think my ECs help my case... will they offset my scores a little bit?

Hypothetically speaking,

What if my scores didn't improve tremendously.

Like, at most my math and verbal were 1000

98% of schools don't even look at ECs. Admissions outside of Ivy League caliber schools is all about your GPA and test scores. If you raise test scores, you should be good.

I don't think you could do much better than OU, it's one of the top schools in the country for Journalism, and you get in-state tuition rates. OSU also has a good program. I think you'll get into both schools, although i'm not as certain about OSU as OU. You can save a bunch of $$$ on app fees if these are the 2 schools you want to go to and you apply early and get in, as both have rolling admissions.
