My gpa ended up being 2.9 after this summer 2012. And im taking 6 classes this fall.. Now I'm really afraid that i won't get in to davis or Berkeley anymore :( since i can't tag to Davis, i'm gonna tag to ucsb.. please can anyone give me some advice for my extracurriculars that will make me get accepted.. i have a part time job but i haven't really volunteered .. What should i put for my work experience? What should i put if I'm majoring communication / media studeies? What volunteer work or any programs should i get involved to put on my application?! :(

I can’t say much without your SAT/ACT scores, so I’m just going to give it to you straight based on your GPA and lack of EC’s. Your GPA sucks. That alone is going to greatly affect your chances of getting into Berkeley (the only one I’m somewhat familiar with)

If you’re going to major in communication/media studies, then you should find EC’s that reflect that desire. You should also research each school to see if those programs have any special requirements or suggestions. You should also try and get as high of an SAT score as possible (obviously, but even more so).

I don’t know whether or not you’re a rising junior or senior. You didn’t specify, but I’m assuming it’s the latter. Either way, if you want to get into any of these schools, you better kick it into high gear.

I agree with Adidas, you are going to have to pick some ECs that you can dedicate yourself to and that can be proud of doing, most of the damage is done for the GPA part. I do not know what year you are, so I don’t know how deep you have gotten yourself into, honestly, probably too deep for Berkeley, unless you come up with a stellar SAT/ACT score (2300+ SAT, 34 ACT most likely). Davis is still a possibility though if you dedicate yourself, and it’s a great campus. Get that GPA into the 3.0s, get an SAT over 2000ish and Davis could be possible, but definitely not guaranteed. There is always the CC and transfer option too.

If he’s talking tag, he’s a CCC transfer. What difference does an SAT or ACT make? OP, if you are a transfer, go to the UC transfers forum.

@Shrinkrap: I didn’t know that he was a CCC transfer, that’s why I mentioned SAT/ACT scores.

Most of what I said, although directed towards someone still in high school, still relates to you.

Sorry i forgot to mention… I’m a transfer from Santa rosa junior college and im a girl. But will i have a chance if i raise up my gpa by this fall semester?!..

^info about Berkeley transfer students.

You need at least 60 credits to transfer to Berkeley, and the 25th GPA percentile for transfer students is 3.64. You’d need to get extremely high grades for the remainder of your classes just to be even considered (I believe). My gut is telling me that it’s not going to work out for Berkeley, though. How many credits do you have so far?

I know i need 60 transferable units. And i will have 60 units by the end of the spring semester 2013. I really want to go to Berkeley i thought i would get 3.2 after summer but i ened up getting two Bs and one A so it didnt raise it up to at least 3.0 at all and I’ve been very upset and worried. I’m just waiting at the ccounseling office right now.

That’s why I’m thinking what are some volunteer work and the EC i can do to put it in my application… besides that, i will be working very hard on my personal esaay for Berkeley as well. And also, i will apply to davis… since i can’t tag there, Im gonna tag to ucsb. I saw their criteria is with at least 2
.4 gpa by fall semester and 3.2 by spring . .
