I'm being serious here. I've noted something really weird going on. People who aren't top 15 from our class with SATs in 1900s and 1800s have gotten in. Their essays were completely disheveled. I kid you not.
I'm really not being cocky or anything, but I can't comprehend why I was rejected. This is insane.
People I KNOW and have read essays, their stats with 550 scores on subject tests and SATs...have gotten in.

Does anyone else see this? People from our school who got rejected from UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis have gotten here.

do you actually want to goto berkeley? You talk about it like its some crappy school compared to the godly caltech that you got waitlisted at but then you’re ****ed you didn’t get in.

I’m really sorry about your rejection. But yeah, I noticed the same thing, also. But really, it’s not just on academics alone. From what I’ve read about UCB, they look at you as a whole and how well-rounded you are, not just the size of your brain.

I keep hearing stories like this. Whenever I try to verify them, it turns out that “people” means “this one guy who balances schoolwork, a job, and caring for his alcoholic father”.

Can you tell me where I ever talk as though Berkeley is crap? Of course I want to go here. Caltech is just better in academic rankings. Its a fact. I’m sorry if I appeared to diss Berkeley. I didn’t mean to do that.

I’m sorry to be all bit**y about all this. Maybe I didn’t deserve to get in. I apologize for my previous posts. Sorry everyone. This thread is stupid. Again, I apologize.

why are people so hard on this guy???
i would much rather have him than some dumbass with an 1800 who brings down the worth of my degree, getting in simply because she has had difficulty all her life with her colorblindness.

Look, if you are determined enough, you can succeed anywhere. It doesn’t have to be at Cal or Harvard or any other prestigious Ivy league school. IMO, this would only motivate me to prove the schools that didn’t accept me wrong.

“Look, if you are determined enough, you can succeed anywhere. It doesn’t have to be at Cal or Harvard or any other prestigious Ivy league school.”

Agreed! Don’t believe your Asian parents. They’re brainwashing you.

Berkeley decisions are not weird. Along with many other top schools, Berkeley and UCLA practice both social engineering and yield management. Social engineering is another term for affirmative action (which is officially banned). So instead of accepting by race, schools will accept by neighborhood (which is almost the same as by race in most of California).

Yield management is the practice of trying to manipulate acceptances to maximize the number of students who accept the admissions offer. In your case, UC might be trying to say: “Come to UCLA”.

I agree that we’re being too harsh on this guy. Growing up in an Asian/Indian family usually fosters great expectations when it comes to academics. It’s natural to feel insulted by rejection, especially when you’ve been building up academic ambitions all your life. I don’t blame him for feeling this way.

I do think that it’s a little silly to post about it here though. You should have expected a mixed/largely negative response, OP.

Ashwin Sundar, you’re a piece of ****. Just because you weren’t good enough with amazing test scores, doesn’t mean you should hate on those of us who don’t do that well in standardized test scores. Its no wonder you didnt get admitted to Berkeley, they saw right through to your arrogance. Rejects like you show that personal character counts, and scores aren’t always the most important. I laugh at you.

I do feel pity for OP but I find it more annoying to whine about it here, what can CC do for you OP? did you seriously not see the backlash beforehand? insulting others who are “less deserving”? yeah, stop it, please. apologizing doesn’t make it better.
