I think college applications are NUTZ!

To all those who know Pomonalike ze back of your hand or who go there:

I just recently began my senior year, and my college search is completely finished. I am not int he process of applying (sort of), and I have realized Pomona is probably close to my top choice. However, I have a D in this AP class that i am in b/c it is a wicked hard class and everybody is failing it (it's not just me at all), and i got my first midterm.

With this in mind, it's hard to know what's going to happen. I might get my first "c" on a report card in h.s., meaning i couldn't get above a 4.1 GPA. my goal is somewhere around a 4.3 so i can get up to their standards. but, say i actually got a C+ and A"s in all the other honors/ap blah blah i'm in, would that ruin my chances if i am a music major? Should i not even bother? it's just a little bit of a concern b/c they may think i'm slacking when i am working harder than i've ever worked >:O

Thank you !

If Pomona is one of your top choices by all means apply. Just make sure you have a balance of reaches, matches and safeties. A C senior year is not a great thing to have AND Pomona looks at the whole picture so the answer is you won't know if you don't try. Make sure you have good recommendations, spend a lot of time with your essay , interview, and there is still tons of time to bring that grade up. Best of luck to you in your college search!

Here is where your GC might be able to shed some light on your performance in this AP class. If other kids are experiencing the same problem, s/he can share that on the recommendation form. The folks in the Admissions Office are realistic; they know that academic hiccups can occur at any time and due to any number of reasons, but because they're not mind readers, it's important to document why.

Good luck!
