Essay
I will write about a Table. How the table is important to me: In Africa my family and I were in a war and so we hide underneath the table from the bombs. Now, since I am in the USA for many years, don’t know exact number... but anyways, now my parents uses it to talk about bills and how will survive for next day.

So the essay will be a contrast of the use of a table in two different countries and two different situations.

Do u think if i get straight A's at penn state will that help me to get in as aspring transfer?

You will get into Emory as a high school senior, you don’t have to go to Penn State…your act is fine, your gpa is a little low(trying bringing it up), and urm status will help…your essay will definatly make you stand out from the crowd, make sure it is very well written…also show interest in the school: visit, email admissions counselors asking questions…good luck…

^yeah, being an URM with a 30+ on the ACT practically guarentees you a spot at most colleges. Sometimes I wish I was an URM lol

^completely untrue. you are obviously unaware of the role the URM status plays in college admissions. all URM acceptees must be qualified enough to be accepted without the URM status. the URM status comes in to play when determining the final class from the pool of qualified applicants. thus, it does provide a benefit by strengthening ones application and chances of “making the final cut” so to speak, but it by no means guarantees acceptance.

brahnema - That is definitely not correct. Although it is quite ridiculous at this point in time, URM applications do not have to have the same qualifications as non URMs to gain acceptance at many, if not most, schools. Although it doesn’t guarantee acceptance, it surely gives a huge edge over many others with the same or somewhat better stats.

you misunderstood what i was saying. the urm status is only a slight boost in application strength at best. what i was saying is that a urm student that gets accepted to a school is completely qualified to be attending that school (meaning even if he/she has lower stats than the average attendee he/she is still a strong student/applicant). for example, say the applicant pool for a certain selective school is 100 applicants and the school plans on accepting 30 of them. out of the 100 applicants, 50 of them may be “qualified” to attend the school because this application season the applicant pool was exceptionally strong. selective schools do NOT accept all qualified students you can ask ivy league schools and the like yourself and they will tell you they recieve far more qualified applicants than they can accept. and, it varies from year to year the strength of the applicant pool. one year student A might have been accepted, but if he applied a year later denied. this student i would refer to as qualified since the school would be willing to accept him if room was available. (waitlisted students are ALL qualified, but not all get accepted) the URM status helps the otherwise qualified student further boost the strength of his/her application. much like demonstrated interest, legacy, athletic recruit (only at certain schools like ivies and div IIIs, at others the athletic recruit status can be a HUGE factor, possibly the only one). URM status matters, but it will not get a student accepted to a school that he/she is not qualified to attend.

Do u think if i get straight A’s at penn state, will that help me to get in as a spring transfer?

^^^^You don’t have to go to penn state, your grades/standarized test scores are good enough for Emory AS A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR APPLICANT, YOU CAN START AT EMORY IN THE FALL…
