will it hurt my chances because im a transfer?

“Um, an ACT of 30 is in the 96th percentile. It’s hardly “subpar” for any school.”

Speihei, that’s factually inaccurate. A 30 is subpar at Yale.

Is it just me or did everyone miss the fact that OP used to hide underneath a table out of fear from being bombed? To me, the fact that you have lived through that and become who you are today is far more noteworthy and exceptional than a 2400. I don’t know if Yale will feel the same way, but I don’t think its a stretch to think that they would.

I actually did miss that. Your chances just doubled. :)

im not going to comment on chances, but that seems like an extraordinary essay. best of luck!

^^^Concerning the comments on the OPs essay, a little of the backstory and an update from the OP might help. In Jan/March of this year (after deadlines, before decisions), the OP posted this thread asking for chances for fr admissions to GT, Duke, Brown & JHU using the Table essay:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/663239-i-think-i-blew.html

The OP also started several other similar threads during the same period for Rice, USC, Penn, UCLA and Michigan, all using the same essay.

In addition, it appears that the OPs gpa and class rank were substantially higher when applying for fr admissions (3.4, 25%) compared to their final HS record (3.0, 40%) when sr year is included.

Did you get accepted to any of those schools?

Your results from fr admissions is important, as it will shed some light on how much the Table essay and your background compensated for the weaker parts of your application. If it didn’t help for fr admissions at these schools, will it realistically be a substantial factor as a soph transfer to Y which has an even lower acceptance rate??

i wasn’t able to apply, my father did not have enough money so im applyin to those schools as a transfer also

have you looked into an application fee waiver?

no what is a fee waiver?

Based on financial factors, you wouldn’t have to pay the fee for application (but you still have other costs such as sending transcripts, test scores and CSS Profile).

can transfers use that?

Truthfully, I’m not sure as I’ve mainly heard about it for fr applications. I suggest you check with the schools you’re interested in and see if it’s possible.

ok thanks!!!

Would yale care if i am taking college algebra instead of cal?

bumpbumpbump (in college)

If you’re asking whether or not the rigor of your college courses will matter, then yes, they will consider the difficulty of your coursework along with all of the other factors on your transfer application.

but my major dose not need cal or high math

Remember, we’re talking about one of the two hardest colleges to transfer to in the nation. They are looking for students who challenge themselves, whether in their major or outside of it.

Since you took precalc in HS, I’m assuming you had the choice of taking alg or calc in college. I’m not saying that you’re not going to be accepted because you took alg rather than calc; you asked if they would “care”, and I think that they do look at the difficulty of the courses you took. That’s JMO, I think you need to stop listening to me and hear from others as they may have very different thoughts on this.

i will drop the class and take cal

im thinking not to send to manuscript because it is taking longer to finish then i thought so i might instead start a sociology journal at my campus
