I think my AP World History score is wrong? What should I do?

My AP World History score is a 3, which greatly disappoints me but I can't do anything about it besides weep [and order a MC rescore service]. This was my first AP class. I had one of the few As in my class, and nailed every FRQ with a 5+/7. My multiple choice falters to around an average of 55/70 on the practice tests I've made. I don't believe in this, as my friends have gotten higher scores than me. Time to put what I think I got in perspective:

I have one of the few As in the class, so I expect to get at least a 4 with some studying and the generous curve

I casually skimmed through 5 Steps to a 5, and multiple official MC tests, gaining great scores

My FRQs are spot on, and MC is at least 50 or higher

I walked out of that exam room confident and with time to spare (I didn't leave early) to look over my FRQs and multiple choice

The teacher has a 90% pass rate of at least a 3, some 4s, and one 5

I have a few questions to ask:

Should I consider doing an MC Rescore to see if CollegeBoard misgraded the test?http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/ap/scores/reporting/for-students

Does CollegeBoard check for the FRQ (not regrade the FRQ) if I order the aforementioned service?

There has been some success with this service. What is the chance of getting a higher (or lower) score?

I understand that 1s and 2s may consider suspicion for missing a part of the test. 3s are pulling at that theory however. Another thing is that when I called CollegeBoard they said that missing a part of the test is an investigation. Do you think that I'm missing part of the test?

Has anyone had their test regraded without ordering this service? As in CollegeBoard amended their mistakes without students reporting low scores?

Assuming that the above does not work, should I retake the test in May? The college that I'm after only grants credit for 4s and 5s.

Thanks College Confidential! -AP student in distress..

If it would make you feel better, I would have the test re-scored. I would assume that if they re-score the multiple choice, they’d check the FRQ. It’s hard to give chances on how your score would change, but I find it highly unlikely that it would go down. Likewise, it’s extremely unlikely that part of the test was missing, but I guess it could be possible. College Board wouldn’t fix a grade without a student reporting the low score because otherwise, they wouldn’t have a reason to think the score was a mistake. Unless you’re planning to major in history, I wouldn’t retake the test. Most other majors that require history classes require U.S. history, so I would take that instead. Even if your score is really a 3, that’s still an accomplishment, so good job!

Thanks for the advice on this! It seems degrading to know the truth… I just had to have someone tell me it straight forward.

I also received a 3 on my world history exam although im quite sure I did way better due to prior practice exams and overall the test was pretty easy. I will be requesting a rescore as well hopefully it is a mistake by the College Board

@yoshifan88 @Ceciliareyes I also got a 3 which really saddens me, too. I studied my ass off… And I was doing really well in the class, just like you! I didn’t know they could rescore… But I don’t think I’ll do it… Just gotta accept, I guess. How did all your guys’ friends do?

It might not actually be a mistake, I’m sorry to say. If you look at the distributions:
<a href=“2014 AP Exam Score Distributions”>2014 AP Exam Score Distributions;
It was very nearly impossible to get a five, and the number of 4s was rather scant as well.

A 3 is nothing to be upset about! I would take it as a learning experience and move on. Getting a 3 with a missing section is pretty much impossible. However, you could always rescore if you want to pay the money. Unfortunately I would not expect an improvement. Congratulations on passing the test and doing well in the class, you should be proud of your achievement!

I got a 4, but I got a 5 on just about every practice test my teacher tortured us with. I thought the AP test was shockingly easy.
Is it worth just a random shot that I get a increase from a 4 to a 5?
Is it possible for my score to be lowered?

A rescore will likely result in no change, but yes, you do run the risk of getting a lower score.

Not worth the the bragging rights then. Most public schools in my state only offer a 3 as undistributed elective credit, which isn’t good as pure old pure credit.

I dunno man

Maybe you just did really bad
