<p>Anyway, you won’t find out if you can get in until you actually open the admissions decision letter. You can only try, and based on the fact that I got in and my personal statistics are less impressive than yours, you have a good shot in my opinion</p>
<p>^ Different schools use different GPA scales. I’ve heard of 4.0, 5.0, 12.0, and 100 scales myself, I’m sure there are others.</p>
<p>@OP - You have the stats, now it’s up to your essays, recommendations, extracurriculars, and just plain old luck, none of which we can judge for you (unfortunately) since we are not Rice admissions officers. ;)</p>
<p>Go for it! Make sure you visit and show interest. Contact the engineering school and set up an interview with an advisor. Meet with some students. Polish your essays. Then, in your why Rice essay be specific about who you met, what you learned and why you are a good fit. Good Luck!</p>

As a past member of the band myself (and a member of Rice Class of 2015) I’d like to say that your “Band” aspects of your Resume are very impressive. I myself was accepted into Rice with a 1990 SAT/ 34 ACT, as well as being a Band Officer/Section Leader. So I imagine that being in Band and having leadership skills in a program such as that helped me. However, the biggest thing to remember about Rice is: They have a seemingly “weird” admission process. Some people get in and some don’t, and who does or doesn’t is really hard to say. The best way to insure your acceptance is to have a unique Resume (including essays). I myself managed to overcome being in the Second Quarter by being an Eagle Scout, having 2000+ Service hours, performing in various out of school ensembles, attending summer conservatories, being an accomplished/performed composer, etc. Also, I was accepted into Shepherd for Composition, which caused them to wave my grades entirely (However, this did not make my chances any better, considering Shepherd only accepts 2 Undergrad Composers a year out of between 100-200 applicants). Pour yourself into your essays, pursue activities that are different and new that you can put on your resume, put something creative in “THE BOX” (you’ll find out about that in August) and really show yourself. A good resume should be a portrait of its owner. I hope you get accepted!
