This site makes me so depressed yet I keep coming back!!! Anybody feel the same way...

i know.......when i look at SAT averages im like right on the 25th percentile.....but evry1 is like u wont get in.

yeah. i think im an idiot now. never reach my dreams. failed high school. who am I?

dont feel upset- remember, personality is everything in at least a few of the Ivies, and if you're here, apparently you care, and thats a start. Just cuz you dont make it to Yale doesn't mean you have to go to a community college or jump off a tall building.

hey now, this site depressed me when I came on to it two years ago. However, looking at how I have competed myself against all you guys on this board has made me a tougher competior in the academics. So take this site as a standard to make yourself better. You'll gradually get better and won't feel depressed, trust me.

u know some people on here are a little too number obsessed. if u don't have a 1600 or a 4.9 u are considered hopeless for the ivys. i know people who have gotten into all of the ivys with 1200 and people who have gotten into Georgetown with below a 1200. Colleges look a potential for growth, what u can contribute to a campus and other things that can't be measured with numbers.

Yeah, exactly. I'm tired of seeing threads where people bemoan their heinous test scores, only to see that they have a 1400 or whatever. These mislaid priorities are starting to ruin people, I think. And here we have freshmen asking if they have any chances of getting into Harvard, with only first quarter grades to show. Come on. These schools are gonna be getting four years of our lives, are they supposed to take over our high school lives, too? I think too often on here, too, people enjoy putting other people down. There's a difference between telling someone the hard truth--that with their 1100 SAT that they most likely won't get into Yale--and being downright mean. And a lot of people are downright mean. It's getting sad. It's like the only way to feel good about themselves is to tell someone with a 1450 SAT and a 4.4 GPA that Brown is out of the question unless they answer two more math questions correctly on the SAT. It's getting out of hand.

it makes you tougher so when you do get accepted in to a school people say is unlikely, you'll be plesantly surprised.

u are absolutely right. it gets down right insane when u see a freshman come on here asking if he will get to Harvard. That is a sad commentary on our society that a young man is so status driven. Harvard isn't everything. HYP will not determine your fate. I personally know people who went to Bug Tussle States and then got accepted into Yale, Penn, Columbia law schools. It is kind of funny b/c my SAT prep guy went to Duke and got a 1590. And what is he doing........ working as a SAT prep guy and driving a piece of s==t. My boss went to a HBCU and went to Penn for Phd and Iowa for law. It is not where u go but what u do when u are there.

Just remember when you look at these threads that these people are like 30 out of 5,000 or 6,000 that will get accepted to the college you want to go to. Those people are probably the highest scorers, like the top 10% of people getting accepted. There is plenty of room for people with lower scores!

I just hope this site isn't a true reality check... I mean, the people who come to this website our the best and the brightest, and, where I live I'm that, but when placed into a pool with people who are published or from India or have a perfect 1600! It's just depressing...

I agree with ecnerwalc3321 that this site makes you a better competitor. CC gives you a better picture of competition you'll be facing across the country and across the globe. I guess initally I was depressed at all the stats. But, I think you should use these emotions to your benefit and give you even more motivation to work hard. I know a few people who were extremeley talented and deserved to go to Harvard and Stanford namely. But, a lot of people just work hard and don't have a special talent - it seems like the latter type of people won't succeed in college. Point being - just becoming an Ivy grad doesn't guarantee success (as my dad has pointed out in his company where Ivy Grads have managers who were educated at state schools).

Going to college itself is a big accomplishment. Going to a college even ranked #111 is excellent, considering the limited options people across the globe have. When you think you are inferior to these posters on CC, think about the fact that you are blessed with an opportunity of education in the USA (when there are nearly 5+ billion in the world, who will never be educated in the US).

"but when placed into a pool with people who are published or from India or have a perfect 1600!"

hahaha whats the "from India" part mean?

haha yes. well not depressed but certainly damper on self-esteem

hahahaha "from India" like thats an impressive stat as well. so funny!

I wish being "from India" counted as a factor in college admissions - I'd be a shoe-in! LOL...j/k.

I would think it would... I mean it's better than being from CA (besides UC's)
