because everyone on this site does so well and it makes u realize how tight the competition is ...

There wanst any terrorist attacks during the Clinton years. so with your line of reasoning is good in preventing terrorism!!

Dont let my 4.5 gpa fool you, my SAT score is only a 2290.

I feel the same way sometimes.

And what makes it even worse is that it seems like everyone has a 4.0+ GPA, and I go to a competitive private school where even though the admissions testing turns down roughly half the applicants, the average GPA is about a 3.0. It's practically impossible to get above a 3.9-4.0. Teachers just don't let it happen because they fear the reputation of grade inflation. Out of around 280 kids, probably 8 of them have GPA's above 4.0. And kids with B grades still get into really good schools. Not Ivy's, but certainly first tier schools. I have a 3.6-3.7 GPA and I'm in the top 15% of my class.

what school do you go to?

Andover?

you would not believe how much i doubted myself about my chances at UCLA. but i got in even though some people said i was reach. this site has people who are the future leaders of America. Don't be depressed, its not THIS COMPETITIVE. If everyone who applied to competitive schools had stats liek these, there would be a problem.

what were your stats rex?

"the future leaders of America." that's hilarious. an experiment should be made to track if that's really true.

i know... It's addicting, takes up WAY too much of my time, and I keep seeing all these super duper students. I'm like, should I even bother applying?

Some people make up or stretch their stats.

I come here...and I leave liking the fact that I go to a normal school where we don't cut out each other's vocal cords to get the upper edge in speech class, where academics are not the only worthy accomplishment, etc. I'd go insane if I had to be around crazy people like the people here all the time! :D

i know! my GPA totally sucks, especially compared to everyone's 5.0s. future leaders of america...haha. gawd, what if Bush was a CCer?

well at least it gets you mentally prepared and it helps you realize what youre up against

Yeah, this forum is definately amazing...

Specifically, this section of this site is BS. Pure BS. ;) I think on the whole, people tend to underestimate the chances of applicants. The reason is probably because there are too many prep-schoolers here who don't know that the admissions standards are easier for other schools around the country.

naaahhh.....

It is just a bunch of competitive kids anxious about the future.

I started on CC to ask a few app questions, but I stayed for the entertainment value. Obviously I want to get into enough of the places I'm applying to have some choices and go somewhere I'll like, but I'm not losing sleep over it. If you figure that there are some kids that are totally stressed out for all four years of high school and get perfect everything and still don't get in, is it really so worth being miserable (not to say you can't be successful and still have fun)? I know so many people who ended up at their local state school and had a great experience, and some who went to ivies and other top places and didn't. And if you look at people who are big time politicians, famous writers, scientists, etc.- they didn't all go to Harvard, so I suspect my future won't be crushed if I don't either.
I would say the most laughs comes from the "My hook is that... I AM SO SO SO SO TALENTED AND FASCINATING AND MY ESSAY IS THE FUNNIEST THING EVER" posts. Although, hey- there is nothing wrong with confidence.

-Kath

yea some of the stats here are insane... im glad i've never wanted to go to an ivy school or i would be really stressed out

tis site is awesome. I can make kids cry by saying they aren't good enough
