This website makes me cry

I am ranked 1/500 with a 4.333 weighted GPA. So I felt really good among my peers and they all tell me that I have a great chance for any school in the country.

But coming to this website, with people ranked 10% with 12 APs and 4.7 GPA, makes me feel bad about myself.

I think this site needs to diversify a bit more, pour in some slightly average people to fill in the gaps to create a fairer (woh this word got past FF spell checker, looked like french) curve.

So ya you smart people with your 1000+ volunteer hour and 20 president of every club in your school, a job well done.

I hope you will be happy people in life

Obviously you haven't been here long enough... what makes you feel bad about your stats???

Get a grip... the vast majority of the kids here aren't that stellar and rank your 1/500 rank isn't exactly horrible. Grow a little backbone and face the fair fight with a little dignity...

Just as a side note,

high schools weigh GPA's differently. A 4.7 from somewhere might not be the same as a 4.7 at your school (if that's even possible, it's not at mine!).

Here you are connected with thousands of very talented academic minds, some with 4.0 UW GPA's, some who have done 4 years or research, and some with 2400 SAT I's and II's. Welcome to life.

wow. if this website makes you cry, what will happen when you're looking for a job??

I understand the intimidation, as I feel that too sometimes. But you have to remember that everybody comes from a different background/story and that they come from different schools as well. (at my school, it's impossible to get a 4.7 or even above a 4.5).

Don't let one website get you down. Stick it out, and do the best YOU can do.

GPA is calculated differently at each school...using another school's method, you might have a 4.7. rank is a much better tool to ascertain how competitive you are. given that you're val of a class of 500, there's no reason for you to cry.

ummm...get used to it?

1/500 = you are competitive at every college in the united states (except all women's schools if your a man, or vice versa) and assuming your SAT score is respectable, there are probably many schools you could attend for free.

LOL @ a website making you cry, whether it's literal or figurative is not relevant...that was hilarious.

Frankly, I find this nothing more than attention whoring (which I can't blame, since I do that quite a bit on these forums only for the lulz), it's not like you have all F's, you're...ranked 1, and have a good GPA. I'm guessing you'll go to a decent college at least. You're pretty smart...I'd actually see the point if you did have like all F's and was in a crisis or something.

And Gryffon's spot on about the rest. On a side note, my presence alone on these forums occupy the exact opposite end of the spectrum of the "President of 20 clubs, genius, 4.7, 20 AP's" on the sole purpose of its existence, contributing to that "diversity".

Yay for Imavoyeurforevaaable and diversity!

Unfortunately, I'm sure some one will be happy to give you an AP tissue.

I have a 3.0 GPA and 1720 SAT scores.

I have a 3.11 and 1780 lol. So quit your *****en!

I took it is a personal challenge to get better
and boosted my test scores big time

Dude, get a grip GPA and class rank is not everything!
Assuming that you have great ECs you'll be competitive anywhere....

join clubs and volunteer, nobody's stopping you.

lol hi. I am international so I am still working on my diction.

This post clearly didn't come out the way I wanted it to be.

I think I was trying to admire the way people devote so much time to EC while maintaining a great GPA.

"cry" was more of a metaphor, instead of the physical expression

i dont think he meant that he literally cries.....

(EDIT: see above post)

i'm very average actually:) I get good grades, but certianly no ivy-leaguer

Yeah, I wasn't serious either...it's ok, I know you can feel like that, but meh, lol, you'll get over it after a while.

Also, think about for a moment that academics isn't all there's to skills in life. Are you good at art? dancing?

I fail at both of the above, but I'm sexy and I'm athletic. So that's enough.

The "average" kids are lurking around here somewhere (real average, not the fake i-got-a-1760-which-is-still-260-points-above-the-national-average average)- but if I had anything less than a 3.5, I wouldn't have the testicles to post anything on here, not least because I'm a girl. I'm thinking alot of people are like me that way. So all you see are kids who, on some level, know they're competitive for great schools. Don't sweat it.
