I want to get into JHU ED and need advice for my situation. Thanks!

Recently I have discovered my love for science. I am a high school junior now, and I have aspirations of attending a nice college and going into neurobiology. I want to be somebody when I am older. Fortunately, I am one year ahead of most of my class as far as science classes go. I took Honors Bio in my freshman year, Honors Chemistry last year, and am taking Honors Anatomy and Physiology this year. Next year I'll take either AP Biology or AP Chemistry, depending on the school I go to. However, there is one problem. I have less than stellar grades in math. I am taking CP Algebra II this year at a private school. I am naturally bad at math and therefore, I have to work much harder at it than I do in my other classes. That doesn't mean that I am not willing to try or go into advanced math courses, etc. I have all the ambition in the world, but unfortunately, my guidance counselor is pretty restricting and is afraid of giving me a chance of taking Honors math, no matter how hard I try to convince him. While my grades in math thus far haven't been great, I feel that they are NOT an indication of my true mathematical potential. Also, I got a B in Honors Bio in my freshman year. That was just because I was lazy, though. I also got a B in Honors Chemistry last year, also out of laziness, but this year I am getting an A+ (96% right now) in Honors A&P. This is because I have discovered the true beauty of science and I'm not lazy anymore.

Here are my math grades:
Algebra I: B/B
Geometry: C/B
Algebra II: B/?

(Next year I will either take Pre-Calc or AP Statistics, again, depending on what school I attend.)

I have gotten great grades (all A's) in my English, History, and Spanish classes, though.
My cumulative, unweighted GPA will be around 3.6-3.7, and weighted around 4.1, more or less with all Honors and AP courses (except for math) and decent EC's (I was president of the Astronomy club last year). What if I get A's from now on in everything?

I haven't taken the ACT yet but I have a very good feeling that I will do well based off of my scores on practice tests.

Do I still have any shot of getting into Johns Hopkins ED next year? What about Penn State? I live in Florida now and want to go to a public university somewhere in New England or Pennsylvania (but JHU is my top choice). Any ideas, tips, advice, anything? Please, you have no idea how stressed out I am right now.

Thank you SO much!!!!!

Any of you 309 people care to say anything?

Nope. We do not.

Thanks for reminding me why I stopped using this site a while ago

Putting this in the “What Are My Chances” forum instead of HSL might be a good start for getting answers.

I agree, but placing it won’t hurt. I think it’ll help if you took the ACT, so we could see your score, but that’s fine. Getting into JHU is really competitive and you need to be on top of things if you want to get accepted. The best thing I can say is to keep pushing through your classes and do well in them.

Do the very best you can, study hard for the ACT, write good essays and get them checked over, get good recs and participate in ECs that you like.

You should have a shot. If you can afford Penn State out of state, then you likely have a decent chance there as well.
