Yeah, that's right. As a project, my Interact club is going to raise money for a free health care clinic.

And you know what? There's nothing that you can do about it. Ha ha.

Yeah, that's right. As a project, my Interact club is going to raise money for a free health care clinic.

And you know what? There's nothing that you can do about it. Ha ha.

That sounds great.

Put your idealism to work in a way that is productive.

Wow, that’s wonderful. I bet you can help a lot of people.

Good luck Saugus! I hope you are able to help many people. God knows their are millions upon millions out there that don’t have affordable health care and there will be more lining up for places like yours as the prices continue to rise and we price people out of this moronic market. Keep us posted.

How many hundreds of millinons you are planning to raise? Are you up to robbing banks or selling drugs? If not, can you teach me how to raise few hundred millions $$ for good causes on my list? In extreme need of advice. Thank you.

“Are you up to robbing banks or selling drugs?”

Perhaps, you wouldn’t think he needs to do this if we could get something that closely resembles an affordable option in this country. Something that won’t come about by what we have now eh? ;)

^ Then you mean that we will reasonably assume that after having hundreds of thousands (some probably close to half-mill) in student loans, most docs will agree to work for free, just for the fun of it and that is what they will tell their own kids and spouses, that everybody should work for free and forget about repaying loans and family responsibilities.

Miami isn’t that how Communism works ;)

Yep, except they do not charge for college, but again, they do not have level of medical help that one can obtain here in the US. But again, some ppl here just love that system, including the ones at the very top. OK, we all free to believe that grass is sooo much greener on another side that we definately need to copy ppl and their practices who live there.

Well, Miami, you certainly are copying a Chinese-method, what with not even typing full words out. Very… symbolic, so to speak.

Didn’t you say your parents are millionaires or something? You should convince them to write a check.

How will they pay for his Ivy education if they are doing good deeds like that?

Why is that? Then he couldn’t jump the gun and run onto this board claiming credit for something he hasn’t even started doing yet.

Back on topic, I hope that Saugus does raise the money, but as a hs student how do you get the public to take you seriously?

I think the bigger issue is that society is so cynical we refuse to believe a 16 yo would have the ability to really do this enormous project.

Saugus has flamed many posters, but here’s my question if Principal posted this would you believe him? Would you jump in and say where do I send a check? If the answer is yes, shouldn’t we take Saugus at face value and ask him how we can help? I know I am the least likely to defend him, and honestly 5 will get you 10 his post is fake, but I do love the idea that maybe our youth is clued in enough to our society that they will use their internet abilities to make a difference.

OP, I would like to ask why you posted this? While i admit it has provoked some thought, and some responses, I am not clear if that’s what you had in mind. Perhaps you are saying the free health care clinic is already up and running, but is looking for donors.

FWIW, there is an organization in my community that probably shares similar concerns, but their focus has been on getting the unisinsured access to health care. This includes SOME fund-raising, but the amount they raise is just a drop in the bucket. The REAL difference they have made is in getting folks signed up and eligible for services that are already there. Like “Healthy Families”.

[Welcome to the California Healthy Families Program](http://www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov/Home/default.aspx)

“Healthy Families owes much of its success to the help it gets from groups and people in the community. These Enrollment Entities (EEs) and Certified Application Assistants (CAAs) are key to reaching eligible families. The State of California is grateful for this assistance.”

Becoming a Certified Application Assistant
http://www.healthyfamilies.ca.gov/EEs_CAAs/Program_Updates/Becoming_a_Certified_Application_Assistant.aspx

OP’s idea is great! Rather than taking down the entire health care system as we know it in order to cover 10-15% of the population who are uninsured and burdening our system, the government should be providing huge tax and other incentives (like malpractice immunity) for private entities to open charitable clinics that will cater to the uninsured.

There are plenty of community groups that are worthwhile and can use our support…in our own neighborhoods.

While I am sure Saugus’ Interact Club is a worthy cause, I would lend support to the massive amounts of groups who are currently doing the work in my local area, first. And due to the fact that I lack the financial resources to write a big check, I try to volunteer in a big way with my hours, to supplement my unfortunately too small checks, instead!

But I applaud any effort to make life better for others.

Perhaps the OP meant to post this in the College Search forum, under the subtitle: “My extracurricular is bigger than your extracurricular.”

blank you get credit for the laugh of the day!

1) To gloat
2) To elicit a hateful response like this one and show how stupid certain people can be.
3) I felt like sharing.
4) I need advice from those who know about things like this.

1) What’s the legality of this? Are we even allowed to do this, or do we need a license?
2) Approximately how much money will this require? (Assuming that all of the doctors are volunteers.)
3) How do I get the word out to people who might want to come?
4) Will this be useful? I want this to be a one-day free clinic. Are there other permanent free clinics in my city? (Santa Clarita). I didn’t find any in Google, but I can’t be sure. I don’t want to rip-off an idea if there are already better people than me running a permanent clinic.

5) I thought that free clinics were one day events, but it turns out that there are permanent free clinics. Why don’t the people in my city just drive to Alhambra?.. Do they do that anyway? (The nearest clinic is over 45 minutes away.)

6) What are the realistic chances of this being successful?

I am going to contact the people who helped put Keith Olbermann’s free clinics together.

And no, I am not seeking donations on here of all places. It’ll likely just be a local thing.

But if you do want to donate to a free clinic:
