Has anyone heard of this? And if you have, is it really worth to take the opportunity? Does it really give you an extra boost in college admissions?

If you don't know what it is, it's basically a 10 day trip to discover "first hand experience" on medicine. Though, it sounds a little shady. They want you to pay 1,000 - 2,000 to attend.

I know a few people that went and liked it. For me, I think it is a waste of money and if you want a summer program for college admissions look into governor's school and boys state which are free.

Well one person I talked to wanted to be a doctor, until he went to the forum. He thought it was interesting, but ultimately decided that he got the wrong idea of life as a doctor and is glad that he did not waste 8 yrs of schooling to do something he did not enjoy. Some other people said it was utterly fascinating and it just increased their desire to enter the medical profession. I didnt go and I am not gonna put it on my college application as an award though, invitations are not ultra-exclusive. But my guidance counselor said that some sort of summer program would really help, b/c that shows to the admissions officers that you budget your free time and dedicate it to more important things.

Do you think that take summer classes at a community college is just as good?

i got that letter today. i dont necessarily think it's a boost since my friend (good grades, lots of leadership, does research at UCI, chucked 1 grand for this baby) didnt get into georgetown. im thinking you'd rather do something productive if u really like medicine. if u live in so-cal, theres a ROP program that teaches u about medicine and stuff. i took this summer, and it was amazing. next year i'm gonna do the cna internship and become a registered nurse. that'll be in my opinion much more productive than listening to some guy lecture about the hospital
