IB Diploma Students

Hello fellow CCers. I've seen a lot of AP threads made, obviously because AP is more widely used in the US. I was wondering, though, who else was in the IB diploma programme? It would be great to chat with other people in the same boat as I am. Plus, I'd like to see how IB works in other school and what others think about IB in general.

I'll start the conversation with a question: What courses are you taking?

I'm taking:
-IB English HL I
-IB Biology HL I
-IB Spanish SL I
-IB History of the Americas HL I
-IB Math SL I
-IB ITGS SL I
-Theory of Knowledge

Prescribed title is due in a week for me, and I just finished my IOC today.

IB History of the Americas HL
IB Biology HL
IB English HL A1
IB Math SL
IB Visual Arts 1A HL
IB Spanish B SL

And yes, I do have 4 HLs, instead of 3, like a boss.

^Nuthin special  4 HLs here too

OP and I have the same schedule except my Bio is SL, Spanish is HL, and I’m doing Music instead of ITGS. ToK title is due sometime soon but a draft is due on monday (11/28)

IOC went pretty well for me (24/30).

Anyways, what # for the prescribed title did you all pick?

I chose #2.

I’m in…

Biology HL

Math SL

I only got to do a few assessments like the TOK presentation but I think I did pretty well on that (although it only matters for my presentation mate now). Good luck to you guys.

This thread is such a good idea. My class is the first in my school to complete the IB Diploma Programme, so it’ll be nice to see how we’re doing compared to other schools.

What’s TOK, HL, and SL? Kudos to you guys in that program, I heard it was ridiculous.

Hey, my high school is in the process of implementing the IB Diploma programme, and I’m the secretary of the district’s Superintendent’s Student Leadership Committee. We’re doing research to see what students think about the programme. I’d like to know about your experiences, if that’s okay. What motivated you to take IB? How was the transition from AP/honors to IB? And whatever else you want to add…

@headofcurls

TOK = Theory of Knowledge. It’s a 1 year and a semester course that is required in order to get the diploma.
HL = Higher Level. Higher Level courses are usually weighted and if you get a 6 or 7 on the exam, you can get university credit (usually). All HL courses are 2 years (in my school at least) and not only are they much harder, but the exam in the end is much harder. So in English, instead of writing 1 paper in SL analyzing a text, in HL you’d write 2 papers, being that the first paper you’d have to analyze 2 texts in 1 essay.
SL = Standard Level. Courses can either be 1 or 2 years. Easier than HL courses and don’t give college credit.

IB recommends 3 HL’s and 3 SL’s. However, overachievers like me usually take 4 HL’s and 2 SL’s.

The hardest courses in the program are debatable but almost everyone can agree that Math HL and Physics HL are in the top 3. At my school, a 65 curves to an 100 when taking the Physics final exam. In Math, the drop-out % is something crazy…
I’m taking both next semester :P

But what makes the program hard is the fact that you have Internal Assessments for each Class, Extended Essay (4,000 word research project), CAS and many other large assignments required for the diploma along the way.

I am a current junior but am doing the diploma…
Classes I am taking are:
English IB A1 HL
History of the Americas IB HL
Spanish SL or HL but probably SL
Physics SL
Chemistry SL
Biology HL
Mathematics HL
TOK
Just did my IOP (30/30) 7 waddup

I am a sophomore, but we had to sit our plans last month so I am onna soon be doing these

HL Biology
HL Chemistry
HL Maths
HL ITGS
SL English A1
SL French B

Does Ivy Leagues prefer ITGS or History, I saw on harvard’s website that they like HS students to do History and not the other stuffs. Also, does ITGS teach programming and working with different softwares or is it just another humanities class type?

Thanks, any thoughts wud be appreciated

Biology HL
English HL
Theatre Arts HL
History HL
Arabic AB initio
Math Studies (haha…)

I heard about one school which had 17% of perfect scorers and an average of 41 for the November examinations.

I’m a junior in the first year of IB.

English HL
History HL (this year is History of the Americas with APUSH, next year is 20th Century World Topics)
Math HL
Economics HL
French SL (this is our only 1 year class with exams this year, but a lot of people go on to take HL next year as an elective because it is totally student designed and fun, even though most of us do not take the exam)
Physics SL (we don’t have enough lab time to take HL, but apparently we learn the HL curriculum anyways)
Last semester I had Communications (a scholarly writing class where we wrote our Extended Essay as first semester juniors to get it out of the way) and for the next three semesters I will take TOK.

Our school supposedly has something like a 98% pass rate for the diploma.

IB English HL I
IB Visual Arts HL I
IB French SL I
IB History of the Americas HL I
IB Math SL II
IB Chemistry SL II
Theory of Knowledge

ADORE TOK. Love my HLs. Hate my SLs…meh. Math’s okay. Testing this year, then I’m done with Chem. dances.
