Hi I was wondering how many IB students take AP exams.
I'm a full IB diploma candidate, a junior, and I'm taking APUSH this year (which I'm really scared for btw because our teacher is horrible). But my mom was arguing that I should take more AP tests, and I was just curious to see how many IB diplommas really take AP tests, and how many they take, and how they do.

I'll start.
I took AP World History last year. scored a 5.

This year I'm takin APUSH.
Next year I'm takin Bio and Econ.

Music Theory, Chem, and Calculus are also options.

My IB classes are:
SL - Latin, Chem, Math (my school doesn't offer HL math or HL chem).
HL - English, Biology, History of the Americas.

Take AP English Language this year and AP Literature and Chem next year. I’m also HL English, AP Eng Lang was an easy 4 with no studying, Literature shouldn’t be any different. You’ll have to review Chem though, there is more math involved in AP than in IB.

Both my kids took IB History of the Americas and made 5’s on the APUSH test. The teacher does plan and encourage it and I think most IB kids do well on it. There is an increase this year in the ones in IB English HL taking AP English and I think a few last year did pretty well. Their High School also has a few that take IB Biology SL or IB Physics SL and try the corresponding AP with mixed results. You need to take a hard look at the IB exam and AP exam schedule for May. You may have 2 exams scheduled on the same day and that can be pretty bad. My kids usually have 5 or 6 exams over 2 weeks and do pretty well but it is an exhausting time. My older child entered college with 48 credits so it can definitely pay off.

Wow that’s great!! I’m also really scared for IB next year. I’m taking 5 IBs & 3-4 APs possibly and there’s a good chance of conflicts. But I’m hoping that if I’m prepared adequately before hand the stress won’t eat up my mind.

But congratulations to Your kids!! Which college did your older get into with 48 credits?

IB History of the Americas HL - APUSH
IB Physics SL - AP Physics B (Self-studying parts)
IB English HL - AP Eng. Lang.
AP Gov. - AP US Gov.
AP Gov. - AP Comp. Gov. (Self-studying)
IB Math Studies SL - AP Calc. AB (Took first sem. calc community college class already, but got a C)

Last year had AP World History class, and self-studied Human Geography. Both 5’s. :D

A lot of IB students from my school do take corresponding AP tests (the teachers encourage it). So, go for it =].
