Ibe!?

damnit, I didn't really know what I wanted to study in college, but now I know. lehigh's IBE sounds so cool, but unfortunately I didn't initally apply to get in there. I was admitted as a Dean's Scholar, is there any way I can get into this program now?

If you were admitted to Business or Engineering school, contact the two administrators of the program by e-mail. They are pretty responsive from what I hear.
The website indicates they might admit qualified applicants into sophmore year. If their yield is less than expected and you fit their profile, they might include you at the beginning.

you can transfer - but IBE program has a harder acceptance rates than other areas- so make sure you talk to someone, it's not the easiest transfer ever.

I am in IBE, I also live down the street, and I'm connected, and yeah, you can apply for admission after a semester.

to thoughtprocess

how difficult is the course load of IBE? It seems like big-time studying. Do you have off-time for extra curriculars? How much homework do you have?
Which is your major? Do you anticipate that being in IBE will matter as far as getting into any investment firms or large companies when you graduate?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

its pretty hard. luckily, you get a condensed version of the engineering courses so some of the VERY hardest coures you aren't required to take. You also get relatively easier classes in business. It is a lot of studying, a lot of work, but you should be able to handle it since they let you in.

You do have time for extracurricular activities. IBE kids are popular on student council and things like that. Your homework varies by semester. Alot of investment firms and large companies will like IBE majors becuse they have a business background, and also the quantiative skills of eningeers.

I'd say IBE majors from Lehigh get a lot of respect from graduate schools, and a lot of companies that usually recruit at other solely business undergrad colleges pay attention to IBE majors and recruit them.

If you had to guess, what would you think the average SATs were, and the high school GPAs of the kids who got into IBE?

I had a 1560, most kids have lower 14's higher 13's, they said that the average SAT is 1440, but I heard somewhere else it was 1380, so not sure

Pretty many valdicts from the Lehigh Valley, most ranked near the top

However, there are some kids wiht alumni connections from the area that got in (aka daughter of regional district judge, owner of restaurant chain etc.) They had like mid 1200's and top 5%, but not nearly as good as most students.

Thoughtprocess:

I thought I read somewhere that you go to Duke...what is your history with Lehigh?

I taking two classes there, members of my family are professors there in the IBE program lol

I'm still a senior, but I'm forwarding these questions to my cousin, who is a junior in the IBE program, and also lives down the street from me (I'm a walk away from Lehigh, its been like the center of my academic life at times)

Can you please ask your cousin if IBE kids join fraternities? And if so, which ones?

Thanks!

thethoughtprocess, I'm in IBE next year, so do you think you can answer some questions for me?

First of all, I also go into Carnegie Mellon Engineering, so from a quality of education standpoint, was deciding on IBE a mistake (just curious)?

Also, I have no idea what to major in. I think I would like Industrial Engineering, but it doesn't seem like they would make a lot of money. I did read that they often end up in management positions though, so do you think IE could be my route to later getting an M.B.A. and becoming an executive in a company? Or are other majors a better route (maybe finance or something)? If instead I major in Finance and go to Wall Street, am I wasting my engineering education?

My current plan is to stay at Lehigh a fifth year (hopefully with a Presidential scholarship) and get a MS in IE and somewhere along the way get a minor in Finance. Is there room in my schedule for all that (I think I will be entering with 23 AP credits).
