Ideal time for ACT Preparation

Hello everyone,
I have registered for the June 8th ACT. Now, I've been practicing a little, like an hour or two everyday since the past week. I do not know if the time is enough. Secondly, this is my gap year and being an international student, I have my entrance examinations and got over my finals in march so I couldn't exactly find time to prepare for the ACT. However, I have May in my hands.

I really want a 30+ because then I will have good number of schools where I can possibly end up. Someone, please help me if this is the ideal time. I really want to do well in the first attempt so that I can work on my applications, apply early , and be through with it.

Thanks and Regards.

Hour or more a day is a perfect amount you just need to make sure you are actually doing it. I would say to a section a day at least and prep, and then a full test on one weekend day.

Thanks pk12ab! See, I am through with the English section from Barron’s ACT 36. It was a little hard and I made mistakes. I am considering to do it again. In my head, I want to finish Barron’s first and do tests. Then, review the strategies a bit everyday so by test day I have good control. I just need to have the right approach then I believe; I will be fine.

For the month of May, study the red book (The real ACT prep guide) religiously.

Thanks. Although, I haven’t done any practice tests; I plan to take them after finishing the Barrons ACT 36. I hope it works out well for me. Any other suggestions? Best strategies for scoring a 30+?

One hour (or one section) per day during the week and one full timed test per day on weekend sounds like a good plan. Do that at least for the last 2-4 weeks before the test. Make sure you go through the answers after practice.
Work hard and good luck to you.

Thanks a lot mate. I have almost finished the Barrons ACT 36, and I plan to do it again along with the practice tests. I really wanna nail it coz I want to get into Cornell

What is your current practice score from full timed test? The Barron 36 does not have much practice. It is around half the thickness of other books. It is fine for review. Try to get other prep books with more practice tests. Make sure you do full timed test to check your pace every week.

I haven’t yet taken a full timed practice test. Though, I ended up with a 30 in math. That’s low for me. I have to score a 33+ atleast in math coz I like the subject. I am planning to take the tests after I finish Barron’s, one each day. Secondly, Barron’s is supposed to be hard and the rigorous preparation should help me(I hope so). Please, suggest me with other good prep books.
