Alright so when I submit my parents 2015 tax returns I have a problem.
First off the tax return itself is 25 pages long. Does it mean only the first two pages for IDOC?
Second, can I have multiple pages of the same document on one file (f.e.: both W-2 pages are submitted as one document instead of 2)?
Third (this one is less important than the other two: If one college has a financial aid deadline of 2/1 and I submit this tomorrow, I should be fine right? That would be 3 business days and CB suggest it takes 2-3.
Hi, I just did all this. My tax return was done online so I uploaded it all at once, can you do that? I spoke with several schools directly, however, and was told I just need the 1st 2 pages (not signed electronically but signed, scanned back in) as well as any schedule pages. Some schools do not use IDOC so look on their website to determine that.
Yes, you can have multiple pages, it can get confusing & IDOC doesn’t want you to but the reality is that it happens. I know I have repeat pages. I was in the same boat, as I uploaded to IDOC the day before & it didn’t process in time. I freaked & called each school & they all said the same thing: the deadline really is just there to make sure you are doing your part, that it is the application to the school itself that MUST meet the deadline, we often sent at 10 mins till midnight, lol.
So I wouldn’t worry about any of your questions. Call the schools monday & tell them you will have it submitted but IDOC won’t have processed it in time. This is VERY common, esp for 1st time applicants who don’t know this stuff. Good luck!
Hey thanks! What exactly do you mean by schedule pages? I’m not very good with this stuff.
And when it says every page signed does that mean just sign every page anywhere or sign only the pages with the signature blank (I’d assume the latter)? @cloudysmom
Schedule pages mean whether your folks used schedules for business income, usually found on line 12 (sch C), line 17 (sch E), or line 18 (sch F) but that was just me, may be others. Your parents should be doing this part for you. I only had 1 school request this, a school that didn’t use IDOC. If you send in the entire return, all schedules will be included.
I have found “sign every page” to only mean the 2nd signature page (pg #2) but remember, if a school says they only need the signature page, it means you still must send pg1 with it as they go together. Think of them like a set.
@cloudysmom Alright thanks. I’ll just send the first two pages and the two schedule pages my parents have. Colleges should just ignore what they don’t need right? Thanks for all your help.
@cr_02 I would send just that unless you can easily send entire return. For weeks after applying I received emails from schools asking for things so just get it turned in on time & if they need clarification they will ask but at least you’ll have done your part & gotten it in on time, good luck!!
I don’t know, “sign every page” is a pretty explicit instruction. I don’t see how “sign every page” can be interpreted to mean “only sign page 2.”
Same with this. I don’t see how an instruction to only send the signature page can be interpreted to mean send the signature page plus another page that doesn’t have a signature.
And I will add…if the school asks for, your WHOLE tax return…that means they want the WHOLE tax return. So send it all.
Thanks for everyone’s help. I found a way to submit my entire tax return just in case they need it.
@BelknapPoint I agree but it happened to me. IDOC said I needed the signature page to be signed so I printed, signed & scanned & uploaded to IDOC on 1/3. About 1/15 I had an alert on my IDOC acct saying they needed my signature page. I called 3 times over the next 2 wks, each time IDOC told me they had the signature & didn’t know why there was an alert on my acct. My D’s portals said they still needed my tax return, which they had had since 1/1. FINALLY last Wed I called IDOC AGAIN, insisted I speak w/ manager. She FINALLY told me the problem: when I sent signature page (pg 2) I ONLY sent pg 2 & I had to send pg 1 as well or it wouldn’t be accepted because pg 1 had my Ss# on it which identifies pg 2. I was pissed as I had called 3 times, missed aid deadlines & done exactly what they said by sending signature page. 3 days later the alert was clear & all schools portals were complete. All because they now had page 1, too. Very stupid but this is why I said what I did to OP, didn’t want them to go through the 3 wks of hell I did.
Was this a situation where you provided the complete tax return, but without a signature on page 2, and then when prompted that the signature page needed to be signed, you sent in a signed page 2 all by itself?
I made a similar error. I uploaded to IDOC the entire turbo tax electronic file without the signature on pg 2. Will I need to re-upload the document by actually printing, signing, re-scanning and upload? If it’s for Duke, I will post what I find out from the office of FA. I left them a message inquiring about this.
@BelknapPoint @OHToCollege Yes, I only sent in pg 2 and I got the alert (10 days later) saying my tax return was incomplete, college portals said the same thing. It took 3 calls over 2 wks to IDOC before a manager finally told me I must send pg 1 back WITH the newly signed pg 2. So I sent those 2 pages together & w/in 24 hrs it was clear in IDOC & the schools portals. Yes OHToCollege you will have to print, sign, scan & reupload but just the 1st 2 pages.
