IF.....At this point......in history......

If at this point, my family is able to finance my education and I DONT apply for aid, But later on because of certain circumstances if I do need aid, will Penn provide aid??

Please help.
Thank you.

You should ABSOLUTELY apply for aid, regardless of your family situation. When things change, you will be taken care of.

I second Chrisw on this. The Ivies all have need-blind admission so I can’t see why you don’t apply for aid … wait … are you international student?

Canadian Permanent Resident, Therefore I’m eligible for need blind aid. Yet this nagging suspicion that perhaps my application may be looked down upon :(

Bumppppppp

BUMPpppppppp

This one’s easy to navigate :P

Apply for financial aid. Your application will not be looked down upon.

Is it easy to get financial aid later on if I dont apply now?

From my understanding, if you don’t apply for financial aid at the start then it’s almost impossible to get financial aid later unless you have a severe change in financial ability (such as if your parents lost their jobs)

Where are you getting that information? You are required to re-file for financial aid every year, meaning you need to do the whole FAFSA, PROFILE, supplement and full federal tax forms. As far as Penn is concerned, 2010 means NOTHING when you are applying for financial aid for academic year 2012-2013 (you apply based on 2011 financial information). There is no reason that someone would get “less” if they fail to apply at the start of their time at Penn. Biggest reason? Penn’s policy is to meet 100% of financial need to all students.

Well I actually thought that the OP is considered international student (I wasn’t sure that Canadian Permanent Resident can be considered domestic in terms of financial aid)

For international student, if they don’t apply for aid then they will not get financial aid in subsequent years (or else many international students will game the system by just not applying for aid in their first year to increase their chances and apply for fin aid later)

But if we are sure the OP will follow domestic fin aid procedure then chrisw might be right.

But really the biggest question here is that why can’t OP just apply for financial aid? It doesn’t hurt anyway. And man, come on if you don’t trust the school on their need-blind policy then you should not ever bother applying in the first place. Who wanna go to a school that they can’t trust even for the most principal things?
