I have been around the forums for a while. In fact, I believe my senior year in high school (2007). As I have been looking around recently, I see a lot of the same posters in the transfer forums. I could not help but ask if any of those that believe Berkeley is their dream school and have a legitimate shot; if they would wanna chat. The reason I say this is because I want to know some people PRIOR to knowing if you are accepted to kind of gauge if I could find a roommate here. I would much rather find a roommate on CC than have some random person (personal preference).

Of course, this entire thread could be null if we do not get into Berkeley. But the way I see it, I would rather be safe than sorry :).

If any of you guys want to chat, my aim is zehpanda. :)

PS. I think this thread could be used to get to know OTHER perspective Berkeley students prior to decisions. I feel that it is important to build connections before decisions come out because at worst, you make a new friend that may be attending another university. At best, you end up making a friend that will be your roommate, and possibly a long time friend.

I was considering Berkeley as THE school I’d be going to no matter what If I got in. Now, I’m thinking it would be logical to just go to UCLA because it’s closer, It would make life easier and nobody would have to quit their job, I could see my family, plus prestige is not as important as it was for me three weeks ago. It’s just undergrad, I’ll worry about prestige for law school. However, I have no problems packing up and moving up north if UCLA won’t accept me (and UCB does). At this moment right now, I see myself at UCLA in September, despite UCB decisions.

^^^
That’s exactly what I have been thinking. I was thinking UCLA was my number one but the whole alumni association stuff being so far away would kinda suck. That’s why I am gonna stay in Nor Cal.

Yea sometimes its just a matter of two arguments. One: Where do you feel most comfy (probably the closest school) and two: do you want to experience a new world. It all boils down to those two concepts for me. Prestige and all that crap is less meaningful for undergrad, unless you get into like Haas or something. As far as comfort, all my friends are here in LA, my family, my job, my life…versus Berkeley, which represents a new world, a new puzzle, and a sort of uncertainty, which is also brings me joy.

Cal is close to home but far enough to move out, and for some reason i love the vibe. i never in my wildest dreams would’ve thought id even have a chance at getting in, and now these last 13 days are KILLING me.

To me, I think that it is almost a necessary experience to get OUT of your home(and surrounding areas) to a far away place, not only to expand your experiences but also to know oneself better. To me, it is not a controversial decision. I live in Orange County, and although I would not mind attending UCLA; I feel that Berkeley would ultimately be a more dynamic and diverse experience.
