Hi guys! I have a question about applying ED and EDII. So let’s say you apply Early Decision for one school in November and find out in December that you didn’t get in through their ED program. Can you then apply for another school’s Early Decision II (assuming that it takes place the same time as Regular Decision applications are due in January), and not risk any legal consequences?
Yes, that is the main purpose of ED II. The binding agreement only activates if you are accepted ED. If you are denied or deferred it is irrelevant.
Yes. If you are denied ED any commitment you have to that school is over and you are free to apply ED2 elsewhere.
Yes. The only thing to remember is that if you are deferred at the Ed1 school and accepted at the ED2 school, you must go to the ED2 school and give up the possibility of attending the ED1 school.
If you are rejected at the ED1 school, it’s an easy decision but many, many schools defer ED students to the regular round. At many, the deferrals turn into rejections, but they also turn into WL positions and acceptances. You should think through that carefully.
