What are my chances of getting a decent job?

By decent job I mean $80,000 +

I'm thinking that if I drop out now, get a GED and go to community college, then transfer to a 4-year, then I can still get a good job. Am I right?

You would be much better off if you graduated early.

You can definitely do that, but I think you misunderstand what a “decent” job is. A decent job does not pay more than $80,000. A decent job is around $40-50k. That’s about what I plan to make after graduating from a top LAC (assuming I get in in the first place).

Why do you want to drop out? And what do you want to do after? That will determine your job prospects…

what is up with dropping out nowadays. if you wanna drop out go ahead, and flip some burgers while you’re at it.

Lmao i can’t believe someone asked this in college confidential. This site is the king of high school loving geeks.

I knew a guy who did that more or less. He didn’t transfer to a university, but he likely could have (he told me he had something like a 3.9 at his CC). But at 18 he has an associates degree while all the other 18 year olds are just starting college.

PBush, I imagine he’s thinking mid-career. If he is thinking starting salary, I have to agree that there’s not much chance at that.

If you are serious about this, you might want to ask in the parents forum. I would think that you’d be just as well off as anyone else (if you have a Bachelors degree, who cares about a high school diploma?) That’s certinly not a good decision to make without being sure of what you’re doing.

Hmm, well this depends on if you’re male or female and your appearance. If you’re female and you have some very specific features, then there are many “decent” paying jobs out in the real world without a need of an education. :)

If you’re a guy, I would stick to college. Just some good advice. ;)
