if I transfer and pursue a different major, would my old grades count toward my GPA?

I attended a public university for computer science and hated the major. I was immature at the time and didn't even attended classes and also didn't bother to withdraw... Needless to say, I had a 1.5 GPA for the first year and dropped out.

Now it's been 3 years later. I've decided to go into language and finish my education. I've taken 35 hours of classes at a CC so far and gotten a 3.9. I want to transfer to a different university (or even reapply to the one I dropped out of). Do I have a shot?

But I'm worried that even if I get admitted, if my old grades gets counted, then I won't have that good of a GPA by the time I graduate... Now, if I get back into my old school, then I can go for "academic renewal" right?

I just can't understand why grades in computer science classes has to do with a language degree...

What can I do? THanks

As a transfer student, most universities will count ALL of your attempted college work and calculate an overall GPA to see if you’ve been admitted. From experience, my first year of college, I had a low GPA and left due to personal reasons that resulted into the low GPA. At my community college, I had a higher overall GPA and got accepted to an instate university.

They calculated ALL of my attempted college work to get an overall GPA and it was enough to qualify for their College of Computing and Informatics (I’m a Computer Science major :P). However, I currently do not have a GPA with that university due to me never having taking courses there, so it’s kind of like I have a fresh start GPA but with enough transfer credits to be considered an upperclassman.
