If I'm applying to Ross

Hi I'm applying to UM for Fall 2012 and I am working on the Common App right now. I would like to go to Ross, so for the Common App do I put that I am applying to the LSA? Where would I put that I want to be considered for Ross? And lastly, for the Why Do You Want to Go to the Certain School You Are Applying Too would I choose Ross or the LSA?

Thanks so much!

The question is

“Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests? (500 words maximum)”

I guess I have to apply to the LSA first, so would my essay have to be on that or could I write about Ross?

I wrote specifically about Ross, but I’ve heard conflicting opinions.

For Ross interested students, generally you apply to LSA as a freshman. There is a
Ross “pre-admission” option on the application as well where Ross accepts a very small number of freshman and then you do not have to apply after your freshman year. I would probably write an essay targeted to LSA with a discussion of how that might help you get the grounding you need for Ross!

I would apply to the school you want to be in if you do not get the preadmit to Ross. For most this is LSA but some apply to COE and Kinesiology. I agree with Ibp on the essay except the essay is really a self reflective essay. They are trying to learn something about you.

Alright thanks. I had written one about Ross where I talked about their programs and how they go well with my interests, and I thought it was pretty good. Do you think it would hurt me to send that one?
