i know UCLA and Cal are real strict about finishing prereqs but i'm not so sure about those two schools...you probably could still get in with that gpa but don't think it's a shoe-in if you're missing prereqs

I am applying in fall 2008 and am looking to major in poly sci at either cal or UCLA. However im planning to do 2 out the 4 prereqs for UCLA in spring 2009.

i'm sure prereqs are weighted heavily. in my case, i still haven't finished my 2nd chemistry course, 4th physics course, and a C++ course but i was still accepted to UCLA, UCI, and UCSD. not finishing prereqs won't count you out entirely but it may play a factor.

i got into ucla missing like 2-3 pre reqs. ucsd rejected me cause i didnt have a second english course done. uci accepted me with some privisional contract

I recommend checking out the department and checking with them about the prereqs. It is still possible to get in with missing prereqs but you may be at a disadvantage in comparsion to other people apply for the same school under the same major. I did not get into UCLA because I had to take a prereq over the summer. The UCLA Sociology department was much stricter on what they want completed before transfer (see UCLA Sociology department page). But I did get into Cal. Its still possible but I would just ask them just to make sure.

I am a CompSci major, i have a 3.9 gpa, and I was missing 2 pre-req physics classes for UCLA, got into all the UCs except for them. I doubt it was a gpa issue since I have 3.9, so it oughta be the 2 missing pre-reqs. I am transferring to Cal this fall, Go care bears ;@)
I hope that helps, basically it depends on your gpa and where you are applying. Some schools are more strict than others, and also, supply and demand.
