If I'm missing 1 or 2 prerequisites will I get in?

Hi guys. I am a computer science major with a 3.7 GPA and I want to go to either UCSD or UCI.

Due to scheduling conflicts with my other classes I do not think I will be able to take 2 prerequisite classes.

Will this severely hurt my chances of getting accepted?

i know UCLA and Cal are real strict about finishing prereqs but i'm not so sure about those two schools...you probably could still get in with that gpa but don't think it's a shoe-in if you're missing prereqs

Striff do you have TAG for those schools?

you can get guaranteed admission for both schools, look into that.

Also is ComSci impacted at UCSD?

Usually at those two schools missing 1-2 preqs is ok for most majors, the impacted ones it is not as easy.

I am applying in fall 2008 and am looking to major in poly sci at either cal or UCLA. However im planning to do 2 out the 4 prereqs for UCLA in spring 2009.

Is this ok? or will i be disadvantaged?

Thanks

Vazman89 you're fine, no need to worry. You are allowed to take prereqes anytime before transfer.

definite disadvantage...poli sci is impacted at UCLA

haha so who's right? jk_91 or beardy?

I think he misread what you were saying and thought you were MISSING 2 prereqs. I had to read your description twice before responding.

yeah i think i got mixed up with the OP...as long as you finish all of your prereqs by the spring before you transfer you'll be fine

i'm sure prereqs are weighted heavily. in my case, i still haven't finished my 2nd chemistry course, 4th physics course, and a C++ course but i was still accepted to UCLA, UCI, and UCSD. not finishing prereqs won't count you out entirely but it may play a factor.

i got into ucla missing like 2-3 pre reqs. ucsd rejected me cause i didnt have a second english course done. uci accepted me with some privisional contract

i got into uci missing 7 . i am a comp sci major

James and DBguy are you both computer science majors?

Its good to know that some of your got in missing some majors, what were you guys GPA?

got into uci and ucsd with a 3.5. never looked into the prereqs for uci but im missing like 5 more classes of math for ucsd, man sci major.

I think you should be fine with your gpa that just means more course you will have to take at the UC.

I recommend checking out the department and checking with them about the prereqs. It is still possible to get in with missing prereqs but you may be at a disadvantage in comparsion to other people apply for the same school under the same major. I did not get into UCLA because I had to take a prereq over the summer. The UCLA Sociology department was much stricter on what they want completed before transfer (see UCLA Sociology department page). But I did get into Cal. Its still possible but I would just ask them just to make sure.

I am a CompSci major, i have a 3.9 gpa, and I was missing 2 pre-req physics classes for UCLA, got into all the UCs except for them. I doubt it was a gpa issue since I have 3.9, so it oughta be the 2 missing pre-reqs. I am transferring to Cal this fall, Go care bears ;@)
I hope that helps, basically it depends on your gpa and where you are applying. Some schools are more strict than others, and also, supply and demand.
